Ok guys and Gals! My dad, brother, and I are planning to put in for some Wyoming elk draws next year. Right now we have 1 preference point. Were looking to put in for some areas with good archery elk hunting, but that wont take us years to draw! any advice with out giving your Honey holes away would be awesome!!

I have a lead on a Wyoming outfitter that my close friend(Dan B.) has been using for years.  My friend, Dan, has had great success with him through the years. He arrowed a cow @ 15 yds this year. I haven't used him as I wish to hunt in NM.  Anyway, his name is:  Cole Butner and his cell is 407/360-7043.  He says his gun elk spots fill-up faster than the archery hunts. Give him a call if you wish.

Question:  Do you each have 1 point or do you only have 1 point between the three of you?  With the way Wyoming's draw works, they will take the average of your party's preference points.  In other words, if you each have 1 point (3 points total), then your average is 1.  While if you only have 1 point among the 3 of you, then your average will be 0.333 for the draw.  If your average is 1, you have a pretty good chance of drawing a General tag.  There can be good hunting in those areas, provided you get away from the people...  The majority of the trophy areas require 7 points minimum to draw.  See the attached link for non-resident regular draw odds with preference points:

I'll tell yah what there is a guy at work that shot a bull in Wyoming on an OTC resident unit scored 363 I'd start by looking at every other year draws for non residents btw this is Brad

We each have one point! I just want a good hunt hunt with decent bulls. I wanna chase bulls  with my bow while their going crazy and bugling!

You just described what every elk hunter looks for every single year!
The best thing you can do is go over maps-statistics on harvest by seeing number successful vs numbers a field-discussing areas with biologist. Doing homework is the best way to get into the elk or at least narrow down you search when you arrive where you need to go. The VERY best thing is getting some miles on your boots and discovering your area you plan to hunt. You would be better off asking about specific locations and elk behaviors than the entire state of Wyoming. Are you willing to hunt with grizz and wolves? If so, stay to the west side of the state and pick an general unit with good numbers and very little wilderness areas that you cant access as a NR. Get to a secluded trail head and walk in over a mile and climb to the tree line. Glass the sun exposed slopes with open meadows early and late. Look for signs in the north timber 3/4 way up the slope and you will find elk there.
