You call the shot - Yes/No

Dumb hunter who has never punched an elk tag.....the after the shot will never cross my mind.

It will someday. When you see how big an elk is laying on the ground, and you know you screwed up. ;)

If you weren\'t prepared to get the meat out from there. Why are you hunting there?
I\'ve been in that position several time but never had the chance to see what I would do... ;) ;)

Opening morning archery season - 9:30am
56 yds
No wind
5 miles from truck
64 degrees - forecast is 80 degrees
You are alone

Shoot?

#1 Openin\' mornin\' at 9:30 am I wouldn\'t be 5 miles from the truck...
#2 56 yards is beyond my range... My max is 40 for elk...
#3 I\'M sure I would have no wind...
#4 As someone else said even if I was there the temp would make a difference...
#5 It seem like I was always along when I was able to elk hunt...

SO NAW, if I was even there but chances are I wasn\' there since I woulda had to leave the truck at midnight to be there in the 1st place...

Assuming I could take a solid shot at that distance, I would do it. It\'s opening morning...what else am I going to have to do the rest of the hunt other than packing meat out??? :D

No I wouldn\'t. Range is about 6 yds. past what I would shoot. Yeah, I practice out to 80 and do ok but I don\'t like taking shots where the range is even a small issue.
5 miles from the truck by myself and over 60 yrs. old is not something I even want to think about! My hat is off to those of you that could make that situation work.

(yes) I have been there done that and yes I packed the meat out, It was an all nighter. But I was much younger then. The only way I would do it now is if my 2 boys were hunting with me. Now a days I wouldn\'t be five miles from my truck. LOL
