This will apply for all elk hunters, new and experienced.

There seems to be one thing that we want to do or overcome for the fall elk hunt.
Each year can bring new goals or strategies

I did not achieve my goal last year of shooting an elk with my recurve from a tree stand.
So, I will having that goal again this year.

Did you achieve your goal last year?

What your goal for this year??

Good question Brad...my goal for this year will be to spend every moment possible in the woods while hunting. My hunt is going to be cut short this year, so I am only going to get 2.5-3 days in the woods. Because of that, I want to take advantage of every minute I\'ll have there. No coming back to camp for lunch or a quick power nap this year...at least that\'s the plan, we\'ll see how it works out! I\'m still waiting for that one year where I drop one first thing opening morning, pack it back to camp, and then kick the feet up and relax for a couple days :D This would be the best year for that as I wouldn\'t have to sit around camp for an entire week.

To be in the position where correct decisions lead to a close encounter. Closing the deal seems too far away right now. Just being in that situation would be a huge step forward!

This year ... the goal is a dead elk.

Years-past, it was \"to learn to find them\" or \"learn to call them.\"

Last year\'s goal was to harvest my first elk and no I did not achieve the goal.

This year\'s goal: harvest first elk or deer. I prefer an elk.

Even if I do not achieve the goal, I have fun trying. A day in the woods is far better than being at work.

My number one goal is to scout more. I want to really take a look at some adjacent drainages and have a back up plan to my back up plan. That means more time spent in the hills this summer, more long hikes through the timber, more glassing of big bulls in that pre-dawn gray...geez sounds like a rough year ahead but someone\'s got to do it!

My goal this year is to kill my first bull. I also want to learn more about some new areas and finding elk. I plan on enjoying myself regardless of if I fill my tag. I hope to catch a few trout and have a couple fresh ones for lunch.

I have two goals of equal importance:

1. Scout an area closer to home and find bulls, hopefully during the early part of the Season (it is a bull only unit)

2. Help a younger dude get his first elk in one of my regular honey holes far from home (or better yet, he can pack out MY bull  )

I achieved my goal last year, which was to go to a new area I\'d never hunted, (will never hunt again), and kill a 350+ bull with a stickbow on public land.

This year it will be to find and kill any legal bull in a new area I\'ve never hunted before, with a low elk density. Not OTC, but a zero-point draw unit, which is basically OTC.

Secondary goal will be to help one of a couple younger guys get their first elk with a bow (in partial payment for packing out my elk :) )

My goal is to spend an extra week in elk country even if I kill early.
I ended up giving vacation days back last year and that will never happen again!!

Very cool, I hope I have that problem! I know if I tagged early and went home, I would regret it for sure.

Seems I never want to leave once I get up there.

I stayed up in camp last year through the 1st week to help Bill and my nephews out.
Bill normally has 3 boys in tow and I took one of the twin boys out for the remainder of the week.
We had lots of close encounters but the bulls always ended up in a bad position for him to shoot, or he never saw them when they came in for a look and left. I just love being in the elk woods in Sept. no better place to relax and unwind from the day to day grind.

after getting back from last years hunt, my goal was to learn more about elk behavior and hunting strategies. I feel I have met that goal so it is now to actually get an elk with a bow.

My goal is to be fortunate enough to get to spend more time in the backcountry on another DIY archery elk hunt with great friends. Having a chance to kill my second elk would be a blessing.

To see my son standing at full draw, solid as a rock, as I call an elk to within 20 yards or closer. :micdrop:

I would like a buck with two antlers this year and a branched antlered bull. I may not hold out on the big bull thing, but I am more determined on getting a buck with two antlers.
