Your current hunting spot...

I think everyone should at least have a \'backup area\' just to the chance of a forest fire.

Good point. Fires, logging activity, etc. can change everything. And they\'re a great excuse to keep on scouting.

You know how long i\'ve been hunting the same unit. Probably way too long to be interesting, or a challenge anymore. It\'s time to move on to a new challenge.

Six years in my current spot. It has been very good to us, but this next season will be the last. I am a map junkie and know of quite a few different areas where I could find elk but after this season I am changing states. In response to the \"grass is always greener\" way of thinking...well it is but it isn\'t. I think a lot of guys move spots too quickly and they never really learn how to hunt an area. I have said it before and I will say it again, I am a firm believer that in every unit in which elk live, every day during hunting season there is at least one spot where, if you were there, you would have the best action of your life. If you stay in the same unit and learn it, you will eventually be able to predict where those gems are. If you keep moving, it all comes down to luck.
