If bivy hunting and you have your camp gear on your back, hunting a wallow until dark, would you camp there or move off 50 -100+ yards to camp?
CON-You would be setting up camp in the dark after moving away.
PRO-Staying there you would be there at daylight if elk were there or coming there...
Colorado allows a pistol carry when bowhunting for protection from bears. I have a .380 caliber that is small, but MAY keep a black bear away. I know it's not even close to grizzly medicine.
What pistols if any do you carry?
This may be common knowledge, but I just learned it. I was shooting a NFAA course and some of the targets are out to 80 yards. When shooting the 80 yard target I commented I only have a 50 yard pin. The guy I was with said to hold the 50 yard pin on the dot, then look above where the 30 yard...

Anyone lucky enough to have elk camp beside a creek that holds trout. Would like to see some pictures of camp and the creek. Unfortunately where I camp, no creeks are close that hold trout. Can drive about an hour and find a good stream, but it is great to have them together.
Maybe even a deep...
I have just a few years of hunting elk, but I have called in two calls and 8 bulls in the four years I have been hunting. Two years it was extremely hot and little to no action happening. I know we target the bulls but I use the cow calls alot. Do you call in more cows than bulls on the average...
Can a wolf or pack take down an adult elk or they mainly feeding on young ones. Elk are big animals, it is hard to believe they could take down an adult elk.
Have you ever found a carcass from a wolf kill?
Lots of new members and information exchanged on this forum. What one thing has been the biggest help or learning tool for you?
I have learned a bunch on here, but I think the post about what time elk are seen at wallers is the most beneficial to me. It has given me more reason and purpose to...
We take a shower bag and let the sun heat it for a hot/warm shower. It works pretty well but I know someone has made some home made inventions for camp showers so lets see some pictures and ideas.
A film crew came into the area we hunt and built a very nice privy for their use, but they left it...
If 2,3 or more hunters go on an elk hunt and only one hunter scores, should you or would you divide the meat equally.
The one I got this fall was divided between me and my hunting partner. I figured he helped skin, butcher and pack it out, he should get half. Making the shot is my bonus but the...
Wanting to carry my bow quiver on my pack or on a belt quiver. Anyone already doing this? How well does it work, or what kind of problems have you had?
Seems like everyone will only post about the high priced gear they use. Granted the high end stuff is the best, but what about low end gear that works?
I like the Merrell hiking boots that are light weight. I go to local "Goodwill" stores and find Merino Wool sweaters that sell for $4. I layer...
I was using my Buck folding knife this year on my elk and broke a piece of the blade about the size of half of a nickle. Perfect little half circle on the blades edge. Packaged it up and mailed it to Buck knives and they sent me a brand new knife just like I had, free of charge. It is great when...
Using a water filter would a high Colorado pond or small lake be drinkable? They seem rather stagnant to me and I have heard the water can be alkaline.
I have hunted deer in the snow and they stand out against the white background. I have not had the opportunity to hunt elk in the snow. Say in archery season a good snow would hit, what would change for hunting elk? Do they hide and bed down in the dark timber or do they continue in normal...
