    Bull of a Lifetime

That’s a great bull and a great write up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with double drop times. My dad is 71 and has a heart condition and had a knee replacement last year. He can’t hunt like he used to but still gets out. Him and my mom have been going out and telling me about all the...

Missing Elk Hunters in CO - Unit 81

I saw where they were struck by lightning. Hopefully they didn’t feel a thing. I’ve been in the woods a few times when lightning storms have come up quick and caught me off guard. I’ve always put everything I have that’s metal in a pile and then I try to get low somewhere else. I don’t know what...

When Do You Leave for Your Hunt?

Report back on what you encounter. I’m also in north Idaho and am curious what the elk will be up to. With it being warm my parents are headed out to sit over some water holes and wallows. Good luck.

When Do You Leave for Your Hunt?

I’m lucky enough to live where I hunt so I will be hunting whenever I can get out. Which is usually a lot. But I’m building our house this year. I was hoping to be done by now but other work came up earlier in the year and I broke ground 2 months later than I wanted. Hopefully I will be done in...

    Hunt Timeframe

I agree. I’ve had great luck early the last several years. Whenever anyone asks what my favorite time to be elk hunting is I tell them sept 12-24. I’ve gotten into good bugling action as early as August 30th but that’s rare for me. Mid to late September usually has good weather too.

“Cold shot” of the Day ‘25

I’d be happy with that too. Nice shooting at 60 yards.

    Idaho draw results are out.

I have been trying to draw a super easy to get extra antlerless whitetail tag with no luck for 8 years. One of those years had a 97% success rate and I was one of the 3 percent that didn’t draw. I did get that tag on a second chance drawing one year. This year I decided to put in for good tags...

    Missouri turkey opener

Unfortunately I don’t have any good places for you to go. I used to know a guy that was friends with my grandfather. He had hundreds of acres and hundreds of turkeys. I was building something on his house in the winter and there were literally 300 plus turkeys in his driveway and barn. He no...

“Cold shot” of the Day ‘25

I have a confession to make. I have only shot 3 practice arrows in the last three years. My shoulders hurt so bad when I’m drawing my bow that I don’t shoot anymore. I force myself to shoot one arrow to try to confirm that my sights haven’t moved. Then I rely on adrenaline to help me draw my bow...

    “Watch them grow” thread

Those are both nice looking bucks. It’s hard to tell but the first one looks like he might have some extra stuff going on.

    Missouri turkey opener

Congrats. I should try turkey hunting in the Spring some year. We have an abundance of turkeys in North Idaho. You are allowed up to 6 either sex in the fall. I usually get the 4 cheap tags. If you want the 5th and 6th tag they cost $12 and $20 if I remember correctly. I fill my tags in my...

    Kansas

Thats nice. My luck with drawing tags is dismal but I have put in for a couple in Idaho that I am hopeful for. What time of year is your Kansas hunt?

That’s a nice buck. Those inlines are cool.

    Wrench meets 2025 Elk Plan.

I camp and hunt solo all the time. Maybe it says something that my wife has zero concerns about me being alone in the woods. I should make sure she hasn’t taken a large life insurance policy out on me. I hunt north Idaho. We have all the predators you mentioned. I’ve never had an issue but I...

What did you do today to work towards your elk success?

One of the places I saw the most boot traffic was private property that nobody was supposed to be on except me. I posted it for the landowner and that only seemed to increase trespassing. That was the same property where I had a treestand stolen and someone left toilet paper hanging on all the...

What did you do today to work towards your elk success?

Did you find any sheds? I used to look for sheds all the time. Then it became popular and everyone else was out doing it. I never used to see people out and now I either see people or boot tracks. I haven’t been out looking for sheds for probably 15 years. That was about the time I started...
