14 Year Old Killed While Hunting

my sons 14. I cant imagine going on a hunt with him and not coming back with him. just horrible

Sad and tragic.....

Doesnt really get into any details but I cant help but think........

\"Be sure of your target and what is beyond your target. Make absolutely certain you can positively identify your target and what is beyond it\"

We heard of this while we were in Montrose the day after. Mixed stories about what happened.
Game warden came into our camp and clarified what happened and why it was a homocide investigation.
Without saying to much because it was being investigated, he did say a 14 year old boy and his father were bowhunting elk.
While they were making cow elk calls, a hunter that was muzzleloading shot the young boy in the chest.
Can\'t imagine the fathers grief and the horror of witnessing his son being taken from him from such a careless person.
I have always bowhunted elk and feared having a firearm season during the archery season this would happen someday.
Nothing against muzzleloaders, but wish the 2 seasons were separate. 1 life is to many and could have been prevented.

I agree this really sucks as I have three boys myself and could not imagine this.

With that being said do we really know the fine details? The person did not identify his target bottom line. What if the father and boy where wearing orange? Was it too thick to even see that? We don\'t know, and will probably never know since we where not there.

Gun hunters shoot gun hunters every year somewhere.

IMO separating the seasons isn\'t the issue here

My goodness what a tragedy, as many of you know I just returned from taking my son on an archery elk hunt to Wyoming. One morning while we were sitting on a waterhole / wallow we heard a bugle with four chuckles up on the ridge above us. My son answered with a couple of cow calls. The bugling came closer and closer, same bugle and chuckles each time four times in a row 5 minutes apart; closer each time. Then four cow calls in a row the same number of \"mews\" each time 5 minutes apart. I told my son not to call as I was sure it was another hunter early on. I didn\'t like the idea of another hunter stalking our cow calls. It was a weird 30 minutes after I realized it was probably another hunter.
Anyone hear of any updates to the above mentioned incident? Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Kevin.
