2014 Meat Pole Thread - Deer

I filled my first ever big game tag. My son was having a moment before we began field dressing.

Crappy pic. Dropped my phone a few weeks ago and shattered the back, hasn\'t been able to focus since!

Congrats to everyone thus far! Here\'s a co-worker with his first deer. I helped him get going last year at the range and borrow some equipment to get started. He did everything this year on his own. He took a nice antelope buck already. Both were on private land but wide open prairie and he made 2 pretty long shots.

My harvest pics will be posted around Thanksgiving during my trip to Oklahoma! :)

Also, as I look back at all the pictures, you\'ve all done a great job of presenting the deer in the pictures. Blood is cleaned up and animal is shown with respect. Kudos!

Agreed! When we took the photos of my son and his deer, we were very careful to get clean and respectful photos. It\'s no accident that the gunsling is hanging down from the muzzleloader in our pics, hiding an exit wound. We also took A LOT of pics to get things right and ultimately get a few that were keepers and sharers. I also had him turn his hat around and got the sun right so his face wasn\'t shadowed.

I only have a few pics from kills in my early years, and a lot of them are bloody, tongues hanging out, bloody tongues hanging out, back of pickup, etc. All good memories, just not as clean as you\'d like them to be now, and we didn\'t want the same for my son\'s first.

Keep \'em coming! Lots of deer season left. Hope to post my own of an archery-killed CO eastern plains buck soon :)

Congrats on a successful hunt, for you and your son, cnelk. Nice work to the rest of you, too.
I have to set the bow down this weekend and chase a doe with my rifle. Take a little pressure off of me if I am successful, always need some good steaks and jerky from deer. Always need to contribute to the sausage making in November, I would rather donate some deer than elk meat.

only had two days to hunt on our anual deer and elk hunt and shot a nice little buck. We shot three deer including a 190 inch pig, and one bull pics of the 190 to come. No I didnt gut shoot this deer, I cut the gut sack when gutting and decided to cut the flanks off as they were coated in it so thats why you see the red.
