Wow Jeff! That is way cool. I\'m glad all the hard work and years of trying for the big one finally paid off.

Thanks Bill...it was a real thrill for an old raghorn killer for sure ;)

Took me awhile to realize I hadn\'t posted my pic on here. I have enjoyed seeing everyone\'s pics!

Great elk everyone!

Is it wrong that I\'m thinking I would rather be out west rifle hunting for cow elk than sitting in a treestand for whitetails?

Nick, I have not purchased my Iowa deer tag yet. My bow is still in the case from Idaho. I know how you feel. Since I have gotten addicted to elk I just don\'t get too excited about deer. In Rochester Mn for a Mayo appointment tomorrow. I will buy my tag Tuesday and plan to get out Wednesday for the first time. Only 11 months left till 2017 elk season. :upthumb:

for anyone who cares:

cal: 308 Win
165gr Nosler Accubond
119 gr =72% weight retention, which is pretty impressive at the shot distance
18 yards
bullet stopped under far skin, after double lung shot

Bull staggerred downhill (towards truck....) about 30 yards, piled up and rolled towards the truck a little more. :)

A rifle at 18 yards!! That\'s bow range. If you had a bow he would have been 180 yards. Funny how that works.

agreed. my first bull (2012) was at ~35 yards. I need to hunt elk with my .44 lever action! it\'s only about 5.5#, and darned quick on target!
