I'm still up in the mountains. We are two for three in camp and trying to help the final guy fill his tag.

First ever elk hunt with archery equipment. Sure was nice to notch this tag. Could not have been more proud!

My cousins first bull (not a bad way to start). Finally located one on Labor Day at 1 pm. Very lackadaisical bugle.  Marked him on my gps Gaia, as always.  Got the wind right and got just slightly below him. I know a lot of people say "just call with emotion", but I'm a believer in elk language.  So I set up my shooter 30 yards ahead, he picked up 2 cows bedded. 3 cow calls, wait a minute. Repeat with shuffling of branches and feet, repeat. Another lackadaisical bugle by the bull.  Not time to unleash the challenge yet. Raked, groaned and send a few rocks rolling down the hill.  Bull bugled getting there. Kept raking, , my shooter at full draw. He screams, and I seal the deal with a challenge right over the top. He ambled down the trail to an 18 yard frontal for my shooter.  Stops.  Arrow away, he jumps the string. Got it in the bread basket, a little off center though. Long 2 mile blood trail and 5 hr track job but what a hunt. See my URGENT post for what came next.
