2017 Elk meat pole

2017 will be a year to remember.  4 general tags,  1 cow tag.  All tags punched in 9 days of hunting. Enjoy. By the way all elk were havested using a rage ss. Here's the pic if the bulls!

Wow!!!!!! Well done!
You guys really cleaned house.

After several days of crappy weather (rain / snow / heat) and dealing with quiet or non-responsive elk, we finally got a cooperative bull during the evening of 9/21.  During the week we had multiple opportunities, but had not been able to close the deal.  Often a bull would bugle in response to a locator, but would not answer a cow call or another locator after closing the distance.  On Thursday 9/21, we did not hear much of anything in the morning.  In the evening, we did get response from a bull and moved in.  One of my partners shot and took the 6x6 bull, but the herd did not break or bust.  After confirming a good hit, our caller called the cows back with a distressed and I took a cow with a 40yd shot.

Apologize for the lack of full body pic, but phone battery had died during the day and I did not get pics until the following morning when I came back for the final quarter.

Still a few more days in most WY units, good luck all!

@ montanaelk, well done!

I get people's apprehension to shoot fixed over mechanicalsbut after shooting rage for the last 7 years or so on deer sized game and smaller, and seeing how destructive they can be it's a tough sell to shoot anything else. I used to shoot rage's at deer and slick tricks at any "heavier" game but most recently I'm becoming almost a 100% convert to rages...

The proof is in the pudding and they simply work.

First elk. Day twelve of the hunt. Solo DIY OTC public land in Idaho. Called him in during a snow flurry to just over 20 yards. First shot was lethal and he ran into the creek and couldn't get out. Once I realized he wasn't going to get out of the water I unloaded the quiver until he stopped breathing.

The series of events that day was a rodeo. Butchering in the creek with him was the worst part, but I'm happy to say he's in a cooler back in Nevada.

Thank you!

It was a great hunt. The rut was definitely in full swing and we saw some good bulls.

I hope everyone is having a great season!
