A September to remember and how I am planning it.

I wont post it all today, but I am going to try to keep up with my prep and planning for my 2024 September hunts. I have an archery elk and deer tag for New Mexico and an archery LE Montana elk tag and general deer tag (will chase them in September when I am out there).

New Mexico tag - 16D, 1st season archery, Sept 1-14
New Mexico tag - 33, early archery, Sept 1-24
Montana tag - 620/621 LE September tag
Montana tag - general deer.

At this time I believe I'll head down to New Mexico a day or two early to set up camp and get acclimated to the mountains.
I've hunted this unit before so I dont need to scout as much, but I will want to glass some of the areas I know.
My hope is to find the right bull early and as always hopefully put one down.
IF I can shoot a NM bull early I will cut east and spend a few days in unit 33 chasing mule deer.

The goal is to be done with everything in NM by the 14th so I can get back to Missouri, drop off meat, clean gear, and then meet my buddy in Montana around the 15th!

Super jealous of that September. Some solid tags for sure! Make sure to save some money for the taxidermy bill, and don't forget to tip them well enough to put a solid wall mount on there...you don't want a trophy falling off the wall again!

My heart still hurts from that day…..

Looking forward to following along with this! Drew the second archery season for the same unit in NM and am getting anxious to put some boots on the ground and check things out.

I have the same LE Montana tag. Planning on hunting there from the 15th to the 21st. Good luck!

Congrats on the draws! Busy September for sure. Some good bulls east of Reserve. If you can get on some of that private land in 33 you'll have it made. Enjoy your hunts and be safe!

I will probably knock on some doors!
I have a few areas E-Scouted for public, but a ranch or two wouldn’t hurt!

Dang! That does sound like a blast. I'm going to CO for Elk 1st Rifle, then home in MN for a week, and back out west to MT for general deer. Best of luck to you!

Leave for Colorado in 26 days, hunting in 29.
Also getting antsy, been through the gear twice already, probably one more time. Taking 2 young guys with me this year, their first time. They just want to see elk, hopefully they get a close up view.

Good luck and enjoy! I hope you all have a great experience.

I don't go through my gear anymore. Instead I rely on last minute panic and throw all of my gear in a bag and then I spend the first several days wondering why I am missing so many important items. It's not a system that I recommend. Several years ago I shot a deer and then realized I didn't have a knife with me. After dragging that buck out 2 miles in one piece I didn't make that mistake again. At least not yet. Then last year I shot a bull and started to work on him and realized I didn't have my usual rope with me. I did have about 5' in my pack for some reason which was just barely enough to hang the quarters. Thank god for cell phones and good hunting partners.

I too have “mastered” the last minute pack and it’s made a few trips interesting. 😂

That would kick my OCD in high gear! For some reason I don’t feel I need to make a list, it’s in my head. A checklist would probably help.
Leave for France on the 13th, back on the 28th. Leave for Colorado the 30th. OMG, time is running out!!!!

What part of France?
I spent 5 months in Marseille for work. It was pretty nice.
