but gun, knife...? how long is this trip? feels like a lot of clothing.

i know i\'m packing a big load of ENVY. :)

Perhaps some type of bug netting for your face, or those bug netting jackets as I hear those skeeters can be pretty rough up there?

I assume your thermal tops and bottoms are not made of cotton, but just wanted to make sure.

Maybe your buddy has this, but some type of water storage units - like an MSR Dromedary?

Can\'t wait to hear about this hunt!

Gaiters
Wind indicator
Side arm for protection
GPS
Water purifier
First aid kit
Camera
Phone
Good pack

Hell I could go on for days!

Good stuff guys!

Are you going to have a sat phone or spot type locator?

Yes, I am considering of getting an InReach unit anyway.
But, talking to the bush pilot last night about this, he doesnt really text and said sat phone are spotty so that would have to be considered

Maybe I can recruit someone here to send a text to so they can call the pilot on the phone if needed? :)

The above list is what I will likely be traveling with. The other gear will be bought or had once I get up there

Yes, I will have a bug net,

and these typically go with me anywhere I go:

Wind indicator
Side arm for protection
GPS
Water purifier
First aid kit
Camera

That\'s a great Idea Brad, recruit someone to call for you. I have rented a Sat phone in the past but with my Inreach I feel I don\'t need too.

I hope to draw and will be taking the first three weeks in Sept off, otherwise I would be more than happy to help you out. Come to think of it my wife s always home so she probably could help out if you need someone to make a call if no volunteers show up here.

I would guess it should work for me to be your calling partner Brad. I will be doing some occasional hunting in September, but I will probably be in areas where I\'ll have service and I doubt I\'ll even be camping more than a night or two, so I\'ll always be back into cell service shortly if I do lose service.

When are you going on the trip?

The plan is to leave DEN Sept 09 Friday morning
Arrive ANC 530pm

Saturday Sept 10 - Arrange gear and any final needs

Either drive up Saturday evening or Sunday am and fly out Sunday pm or Monday am.

Hunt thru 10/20 [season end] return to DEN Sept 25

What side arm are you bringing?!

Will be carrying a 44mag

I have a ResQlink PLB. I\'ll loan it to you if you think you might feel better having that capability on your person.

I appreciate that offer WW!

But for this application, Im thinking it would be the priority to have the ability to contact the pilot when a moose is ready for transport and then our extraction.
That way he doesnt have to fly in and check on us.

That Kind of puts a damper on you CO elk hunt. Guess we better get you one early.

It will be all good. Ill have 5 days of elk hunting to get it done - Plenty of time... :)

If you push the button on a PLB you will have a pilot fly in for sure. But I doubt the Coast Guard or Air Force will haul out your moose.

I didn\'t realize this would be during elk season when I\'ll be needing the PLB myself. Sort of nice to have in my pocket when you get old and clumsy like me!

Brad, can\'t recall but I think you wear glasses. If so, I take a no fog cloth plus a cleaner cloth. Plus, a backup pair or contacts.
