Here are some things to look for that you may or may not know. Lets see if you can add to the list.

1) Can you tell if an elk is a bull or a cow when you can\'t see their head? Many people think the bull is lighter in color. Some times it works and sometimes it doesn\'t. But one sure way is to look at the belly and legs. Bulls are always darker colored in those areas.

2) When glassing mule deer at a distance, the white or lighter marking just above the nose really shows up on a buck but not so much on does.

3) Watch a deer\'s tail. Just before they move, they will twitch their tail. This is true for both muleys and whitetails.

So what can the rest of you guys have to add to the list? Just for fun we will open it up to any type of wild animal you may hunt.

If you see where an elk has urinated and it appears to mostly have been drilled into the dirt or snow, it was a bull. If it covers a larger area 8\"-12\" in diameter, it was a cow.

When you see deer tracks in a couple inches of snow, bucks will usually drag their hoofs more so than does will.

A spooked mule deer buck traveling up a slope has a tendancy to stop just before the top and look back at you.
Just long enough for a shot if you\'re ready!!

I\'m really enjoying these mule deer tips!!!!
I need all I can get.

I\'m going on my first official mule deer hunt here soon and I am so excited.

same applies for bulls us males must just be lazy.
also when tracking on relative even ground a bulls rear foot will fall on the inside of the front foot track while a doe/cow rear foot will fall on the outside of the front foot

When examining whitetail scrapes I pay particular attention to the limbs above the scrape. The more limbs that have been chewed, likely the more bucks using the scrape. This is what I am looking for when setting a stand on a good scrape not so much what the ground looks like
