Hey this is mike from Maryland. Comin out west in a couple weeks and it couldn't come fast enough. I really don't post much on forums but this one looks good but not many posts. Why? This is a kickass site? We'll anyway I'll just tell my plans for my short elk season. Love to here plans from all of you.
My best friend john lives outside steamboat near yampa. I will fly in the day before the opener. I would have chose the fallowing week but I'll take whatever fits in my family's schedule. Bless my wife for letting go for elk every year. Two small children! It's like I work all year to have that one week in the mountains...
Been out for the past six years and have harvested a few cows and a couple raghorns with rifle/muz but nothing in my three try's with a bow. I seem to get in a swirling wind in my encounters. Last year got within 50 yards of a scream in bull but just over the crest of a hill. All I saw were tips of antlers and steam from his bugles... So close. But it's always a awesome adventure. I'm hoping my luck changes this year as I plan on glassing up high for the first couple days and dropping down in some lower elevations blm's for a break.
What's everybody's plan?
Scouting reports?
Tips?
I'm just stoked and need to here from others
Thanks, shoot straight!
