Can I go along? The Adventures of Colt the Knife...

Dan, we leave this afternoon when my son gets out of school. It is a draw hunt done through the Texas parks and wildlife. I will try and keep everyone posted on how the hunt is going.

Good Luck - Have fun!

Someone else needs to request Colt the Knife real soon to it can keep traveling

Thank\'s Brad and Dan

Me, my son and Colt are loaded up and hitting the road! I will keep y\'all updated on the hunt as much as I can. Wish us luck!

Well no luck today. We had a couple of opportunities but couldn\'t close the deal. Hope we can get it done in the morning. It was a sloppy mess with all the snow that was melting. I will post some pictures when I get back home.

Colt\'s Adventure,

We just got back yesterday afternoon. We had to cut the trip a little shorter than we wanted. A week before we left my son hands me a paper that has his football banquet scheduled for Sunday at 6pm. I said no problem still leaves us a afternoon and morning to hunt. I told him we would just have to hit it hard that first afternoon. When we arrived it had snowed 12\'\'-14\'\' inches two days before. Which being in Texas was pretty awesome to get to hunt in. ( So I thought until it started melting!) We drive into our hunting compartment, check our gear, strap on our packs and decent down into the canyon. We hike up and down finally making a big circle back to the truck. ( gps said 9.2 miles) We didn\'t see any animals the whole time we were in the canyon, which was a little discouraging. We were hoping to run into some Aoudad. We get back to the truck and right down the road was a Mule deer doe. My son tried to get into position to make a good shot but as soon as he got ready she bolted. Oh well still had another morning to hunt.

The next morning we had a game plan. We were going to try to get a doe up top since we were pressed on time. We hike around the rim of the canyon looking for Mule deer. It was around 9:30 and I told my son that we needed to make our way back to the truck because we have to leave at 12:30-1:00 at the latest to make it back home for the banquet. He wanted to skip the banquet! I laughed and said your mom wouldn\'t be to happy with us if we didn\'t make it back in time. He agreed,so we turned back towards the truck. We get around 500 yards from the truck and spot a Mule deer doe feeding along the rim. My son got into position to shoot. He shot and hit her a little forward in the chest. Well guess what she ran down into the canyon! We went down in after her and finally found her. It was 10:25 and we had a doe down in the bottom of the canyon! We got some pictures and I told my son to take the backpacks and gun back to the truck and to grab the frame pack and some waters. I had alot of work and little time to get the doe skinned and quartered for the pack out. When my son got back I had the front quarter and hind quarter off. He helped me with the rest and got it all into game bags. He said are we going to make two trips. I said we don\'t have time as it was around 11:30. I put backstraps and tenderloins in his pack and I loaded the frame pack with everything else. We finally made it to the top with a couple of slips and slides. We got back to the truck at 12:45, Just in time to get everything loaded up and hit the road.

We had a great time even if we were pressed for time. Thanks to everyone that wished us luck! Brad, thank you for letting us take Colt on his first adventure! Hope he has many more to come!
Who wants to take Colt next?????

That\'s awesome. Congrats to your son and you for taking him. Glad to see Colt with some blood on it. Nice pic\'s. :upthumb:

Very cool David, way to start Colt off! If that knife is going to have that kind of luck, I have a feeling it won\'t be hard to get people to take it with them on a hunt ;)

Congrats to you and your son David.

Way to start this thread and \"Colt Adventure\" off the right foot!

It looks beautiful out there
