Can you make this shot?

If you\'re not comfortable with the shot, don\'t take it. My take is that the guys killing elk every year will do something and kill that bull. They make shots happen when the rest of the guys wait and hope something better comes along. The elk above may not be a perfect example but it\'s a pretty good one. If you want to kill todays bulls, you need to make things happen. They\'re just not as stupid as the were in the 70\'s. That bull stopped for a reason and he could easily turn 180 and be gone.

The Bulls aren\'t die\'n if the arrows aren\'t fly\'n.

While ya\'ll were discussing this, I killed him so now you no longer need to decide whether to shoot ;) He took two steps when I stopped him with a bugle and then he rolled over :D

I have to disagree a bit. The bulls are just as stupid. They\'ve just become smarter about call tactics. Almost everybody today is educating them on calling. When you don\'t call them in, they aren\'t alert, and ready to bolt.

Just saying.

Sorry, this went from a debate to...

Just splittin hairs, but I\'ve been trying to train my eye to center my aim one third up from the bottom (with archery) because the spine occupies most of the upper third of the broadside shot. As a chiropractor, I\'m all over that spine stuff. Wouldn\'t want to give an elk an adjustment I couldn\'t charge for. :angle:

I agree with Siskiyou, any of the weapons you listed I would be pulling the trigger. The circle that cnelk posted was a little high for my taste. Scare

Rifle yes, bow no.

I gotta ask ... this comment sounds like a common one ... what\'s the difference?

Well I see a lot of bone. Yes, you could make this shot with the bow. That softball is mighty small and if you hit it in the shoulder with an arrow, well I don\'t think it\'s a good thing. On the other hand, with my scoped 7 mag, you have lots of options, including the neck. Also, to me, depends on the range. Don\'t know if that was part of the original question.

did we ever discuss how far this shot is?

i\'ve let this topic marinate..i would go for it. well, for damn sure, i would be at full draw. this is the situations that makes me question everyone\'s rocket bow choices. i know a kid that cannot hold full draw for more than 30 seconds..he sure as heck cannot let down without a huge backwards yank.

i am 90% sure my next bow will be a 60lb bow..i think this situation warrants a easy drawing, let down, long hold bow.

According to the OP...this is a 35 yard shot.

Cliff, that\'s why I\'m loving the Elite Pure, although I do have 65 lb limbs on it (I have a set of 60# limbs if you are interested). ;)

I retired my 50 percent letoff bow a couple years ago, and replaced it with an 80 percent letoff bow for that very reason. I had to hold for at least a minute last Season on this blacktail buck that had had a limb hanging right over his vitals:

thanks. i am cool with my 70\'s right now. my bowshop \"accidentally\" has the bow pulling 67lbs right now and it feels kinda nice. i\'ll leave those neccesary twist out of the cables for now. bow shoots great, and i dont want to mess with it.

blacktails..yeesh..i still remember two WHOPPERS i followed up in the Trinity\'s..HUGE wide blacktails. they were in the most unapproachable mountain top ever. amazing animals. there was this very young blacktail near our camp. my buddy named it \"milky\" cuz he said it wasnt that long ago he was still nursing off of mom..ahah...he wouldnt let me shoot him because we were actively hunting the two big ones..

i should have arrowed milky.
