Favorite Elk call?

I prefer a diaphram call, it just seems to give me more vocal control and I can use it to make either a cow sound or a bugle with a tube. Also no hand movement by holding a reed type call.
I would name my calls, but not certain it is allowed on here....

I also prefer diaphrams but I usually have serveral other cow calls and diaphrams with me as well as I don't like using the same calls all the time especially if I've been busted!  As for brands, I've found some different styles fit my mouth better than others so I'd say it's one of those things that people just have to try a few and see what fits them best.

Guys,

You are absolutely OK to list the calls/gear you use....as long as you aren't posting to advertise for a company. COLOelkman is right on....calls are like boots...you need to find the one that works the best for you, and that is the best elk call! :)

Personally, I use the Elk101 All-Star with the Bully Bull Grunt Tube. I also like to use the Temptress for some added variation.

Steve Chapells (esp Excited Estrus and Closer), All-Star and Bugling Bulls all work for me and I typically have 4-5 reeds in a case each time out.  Love the Bully Tube, though I put moleskin around the mouthpiece.  The Temptress makes nice Excited Cow sounds.  I have one more reed call, but can't recall the maker of it :-\ .

Being a long-time turkey hunter, I just naturally gravitated to the diaphram-Like messing with all types tho-- part of the fun--Bill

Bugling Bull Game Calls for me.  Raging Bull Diaphram, Bully Bull Grunt Tube, and Whose YRR Daddy cow call.

Works every time (as in the calls make elk sounds, the elk don't always cooperate)!

I like the raging bull best (brown diaphragm).  But I also carry an old knigh & Hale yellow double reed diaphragm because it is so rigid I can really get on it and create some volume for long distance bugling.  It also sounds a bit different and sometimes its just nice to mix it up for the elk who have heard everything.

I use Phelps Game Calls' External Estrus, Dragon Slayer and other custom Diaphragms and the "Unlocateabull" bugle tube.

I use glen berry satelite bull reed and herd bull diaphram they seem to work good but have been kicking around getting elk101 stuff curious about the bully bull tube.

Thanks Buglelkfor the info on posting.
I use the Quaker Boy green screaming bugle diaphram call and the Primos Imaka the bull crazy reed cow call. Also keep a Hoochie Mamma tied on to my belt as an extra.
Like Billg, I have used diaphram calls for turkey hunting for many years so it is just easy to use them for elk hunting.

I  use the who's yr' daddy and now the temptress reed calls.. still trying to get the hang of diaphram calls.. I've had good success both locating and calling elk in with the reeds.. one of my goals is to use the bugle more this year..where I hunt I've been afraid of calling in  hunters instead of elk, so I have not bugled much...

the bully bull tube sounds great.  Most realistic of all the products.  My only tiny gripe is its very "thumpy" if it bumps against anything because its rigid.  I like the contoured bent shape of my old grunt tube for packing quietly, but bully bull sounds better.  My advice is have a pack that it slides in and out of easily rather than use the shoulder strap if possible.

linds2007, I am here to tell ya that Bully Bull tube will make a good caller sound great!!! I love mine and have had nothing but great luck with it  :D

I love the Raging bull and the All star reeds with that tube, and a temptress for backup....

My favorites are the mellow yellow and the raging bull. I love the screaming tormentor for locating . Bugle tubes I go between the Bully Bull (bugling Bull gamecalls), Unlocateable  (Phelps), and the Chuckler (Elknut) . Miix it up every day by switching . I dont know if it really makes a differance but thats how i roll.

All diaphragm calls here...a mixture of Steve Chapell, Bugling Bull and Glen Berry. Lost my long time friend two years ago/lucky Bugle 2 years ago so now using the Bully Tube.
