First Elk Blood 2016

I\'m feeling it happen today....
I\'ve talked to a few people who were close and I just have a real good feel about today!

No contact with anyone but this could be the day (as the American Pickers would say) \"to break the ice\"... :D :D

Come guys a gals break the ice and let the flood waters roll...

Alright, I really didn\'t want to be the first one posting... because let\'s just say mine was kinda on the small side (you could barely see the spots) :lolno: . I really thought I was shooting a yearling/mature cow and even did a double check when I found her piled up, thinking did get on the wrong blood trail?? I\'m not opposed to shooing calves and probably would have shot her anyway as I\'m on a mission to put lots of clean protein in the freezer this fall and she was all by her lonesome...

I remember my dad shooting a calf one year and exclaiming he thought she was huge when he shot her, I couldn\'t understand how he could mistake a calf for a cow at the time but now I\'ve got a bit different perspective... anyway happy to have meat (extra tender :angle: ) in the freezer!

Nice shot!

Ive killed a few elk calves over the years and never once regretted it :)

My first was a calf. No spots on him. After 13 days of hunting you don\'t pass up a 17 yard shot less than a mile from the truck. Tasted great!

Congrats on some fine eats.....

Actually, shooting a calf is quite the accomplishment.

The kill zone is way smaller :haha: :haha: :haha:

Some fine eating there, Matt...

And if I\'d been in your position with the extra tag I would have shoot her too... :upthumb: :upthumb: :upthumb:

Maybe even with a either sex tag only...

Kinda like shooting a south Arkansas whitetail fawn is an accomplishment too Brad... :D :D I know since I shot several while I was bow hunting and they wasn\'t as much meat but they sure were tender and fine groceries...

Congrats Matt, been a while since I had any elk calf but from what I remember it was the best!
