I posted a few trail camera photos under someone else's post about trail camera photos. This post is a follow up report-success story. My nephew shot this bull at about 11:30 on Idaho archery opening day, Aug. 30th. He sat my most active wallow tree stand. He had originally found this meadow full of wallows two years ago during my son's rifle hunt. We spent the rest of opening weekend packing!

Well, after logging about 42 hours in my tree stands, I finally got it done Thursday evening. This is definitely not the biggest bull in the woods, but he's my first archery elk and I'm thrilled with him! My nephew had to go to Montana this weekend and my hunting buddy couldn't get out of work. I decided to go hunt solo, I know, not the smartest thing to do. Any way I got this bull around 6:00 PM Thursday night. I skinned, quartered, and packed out the back straps, tenderloins, and some neck/rib meat that night. A few text messages and phone calls on the way out and help was on the way. We packed the head, front shoulders, and hind quarters out on Friday. Many thanks to my friend Tom and nephew Darrin!

Very nice! I love hunting tree stands, you definitely have to put in your time. When would you say the bulls were showing up the most at the wallows?

Ruttin, back in late June, early July, most of the bulls were hitting wallows in early morning, late evening, but as the rut progressed, they were coming in almost any time. I had a lot of bulls coming in mid day! My nephew shot his bull around 11:30 in the morning. That was the beauty of using trail cameras! I knew they could and would show up almost anytime.

Thanks smokepoler63, the reason I asked was I found some new wallows that were tore up this year, and am making a game plan for next year. Again congrats on your bulls!
