Some of you may remember that last year opening weekend and thru the first week, I ended up needing more arrows.
So now I am wondering how many arrows to take for 10 days of hunting?

And dont say 1...

Because I know everyone has more than 1 arrow in their quiver :)

Base Camp: Max Number arrows used (lost) in the past for those 10 days plus 20-30% more. If you have the space, up it to 50% more. Your hunting buddies may steal your arrows if they run out.

Spike camp: Max Number used in X Days plus 30%. If going long distance from Base Camp, go with 50% extra.

I use the 20-30% extra rule for other activities and it has worked out.

At a 3D shoot, I almost ran out of arrows because I forgot to replace the 1-2 arrows that I lost during the first round. Using the 20-30% rule, I would have been fine for that shoot if I did not find that last arrow I initially misplaced (lost).

Since I\'m not going to take a Judo this year to shoot grouse, that\'ll keep me from losing arrows!

Quiver + 5, I\'m thinking.

I only carry 5 becuz it\'s all I can hold. Tried to find a larger quiver last year & never found one I liked. In 2010 & before I only carried 3. I\'ve ran out 2wice since then shooting at elk. In 2011 I shot all 5 along with my bro shooting his 4. All at the same bull. Lol I always watched shows & thought why do those guy\'s carry so any arrow\'s. I now know! Lol

I have 5 in my quiver plus another dozen in the trailer. The arrows are no good to my if they are at home, an I have plenty of room in the trailer. I also have about 6-8 practice arrows with field points and one with a practice broad head. If I hunt from a spike camp there will be only the five arrows in the quiver.

Same as Swede. I\'ve carried 5 in my quiver with a blunt on one for the last 20 years & never run short, except for that one arrow with the rubber tip. Guess I\'m pretty fortunate in that when I do shoot at an animal, it\'s either a broken arrow or a pass thru & just needs a quick bath in the creek. Never had to remove one from a tree as some on here seem to do. :haha:

I\'m taking a dozen. 5 in my quiver and 7 back at the truck. Going to hunt for two weeks. I\'ve never needed that many hunting whitetails as I\'m pretty selective on my shots so I can\'t imagine needing more than that on my first elk hunt. If so I would say I\'ve had a great first hunt. :angle:

Hey Pop-r, sometime you need to recount the tale of flinging 9 arrows at the same bull. I promise my response would be respectful! :p

I take 4 with more in the truck.

I have a four arrow quiver. Three with broad heads and one judo. Will have a dozen total with.

i just carried the 4 in my quiver. upon further review i will be taking more with me this year.

Ok, I take 1.5 arrows! I have 6 with me and 4-6 practice back at camp.

Back when I rifled hunted elk I came across a party that would only give the youths 1 bullet. After they learned to kill elk with one shot, they were allowed more.

I went to Sportsmans Warehouse last night and ended up picking up a box of 6 GoldTip 55/75 Hunter XT.
I usually buy bare shafts and build my arrows but these came with GT vanes [very similar to Blazer vanes]
inserts and nocks = ~$65

So this morning I cut them to length, glued in the inserts and gave them a test drive.

WOW.
I am seriously impressed.
I thought I had good flight with 4 inch feather fletching, but these things flew great.

So now my arrow count is 12.
5 in the quiver , 7 in the truck

So what are you going to do after opening weekend? :haha: :)

I hope I don\'t need more arrows !
I will have 2 elk tags so the chances of filling both are slim.

My bow quiver holds 5. 4 with broadheads, one rubber blunt for practice while hunting every day. I have more in the truck and spike camp back in the woods. I come out every 3 or 4 days to restock supplies. Arrows are available if I need them. Or, I would steal them from my son & partners!
