This was my Grandfather\'s hunting knife. It is a Solingen knife that he last used in 1971. My mom was pregnant with me when he died of a heart attack at the age of 48. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and too was an Aeronautical Engineer. My mother gave me the knife two years ago and I had to rebuild the handle as it was broken. It was an honor to use this knife to field dress my first big game animal.

You can see the entry wound here. Low on this side, high on the far side. If you look closely, you can see another deer in the background.

Did your son not have a deer tag Lark? You could have had two down right there!
He did not. He had an elk tag though. We both put in for deer but I had a preference point and he did not. He should draw one next year, then HE gets to hunt for deer. Should be awesome!

That will be a hunt that you will never forget Lark. Hope your son can get a chance at a elk to.

Great story Lark, I am glad it was only .34 miles away from camp. Close drags to camp seem to be a site trend this year

What broad heads were you shooting?

After you shot, did you hear that \"sack\" noise when you hit the deer? Never forget it....

Good luck on the rest of your elk hunt! I hear victory venison jerky always helps on elk hunts :upthumb:

NAP Thunderheads. They flew great but I was NOT happy with the blood trail. I put some Montecs on last night. They fly really well and I\'m hoping they might produce something better than micro-drops of blood to follow.
