Welcome to the Elk101.com Forums!

My name is Gary......I'm a Maniac 8) ...Class of '72  so that puts me in the mature guy bracket like Rocky.  After graduating from Orofino, I did 4 years in the Air Force and Uncle Sam let me out in Austin Texas, where I've been ever since. I started bowhunting whitetail down here in the mid 80's, and chase after pigs and javi when I get a chance. A DIY archery elk hunt in Idaho has always been on my bucket list, so I thought I'd better get to it before I mature any more.
First off Corey and crew, Well done. :)  Being a novice elk hunter, I was looking for online information on bow elk and found links to this site through another forum I am a member of.  And I found a lot. Thank you for all the great info and video put together here, to help start, motivate, and sustain elk hunters.
I've bought my Panhandle A tag and will spend Sept 14-21 somewhere around St. Maries. Let the adventure begin

Hi all!

Buglelk - this is a very well structured site - *excellent* navigation and layout - well done!!!

Anyway, I'm Frank and just joined the Forum. From Michigan originally (hunting farm-country whitetails), but now and (hopefully!) live in Colorado (Colorado Springs to be specific). Was bit by the elk hunting bug through hunting magazines circa 1982 and received a 7mm Rem Mag as a HS Graduation present specifically to hunt elk with.

This year I went elk hunting for the 1st time (sorta...). A couple business matters went sideways and I had to leave early before the actual hunt.... bad, bad situation. However, I'm looking forward to 2014 (and better planning)!

Life/education/etc was primary focus throughout life until this last year when my family and I moved to Colorado Springs. Now, I can realize a long-held dream and can hunt elk every year!

I love winter camping/backpacking/mountain hiking (climbing?) as well as photography. I'm an old dedicated family guy with two elementary-age kids and hope to successfully endear them to elk hunting as well.

Oh yeah, I tend to be verbose..... why say in 5 words what can be said with 50?  ;)

My name is Sean.  I live on the Olympic Peninsula here in Washington.  Originally from Illinois.  I grew hunting whitetails and small game.  Been hunting for 20 years, started shooting a bow when I was five, and have been archery hunting for 13 years.  Last year was my first opportunity to hunt in Washington (only deer) but this year I decided to give elk hunting a shot.  I was able to harvest my first bull this year and don't plan on turning back.  I still got a blacktail tag burning in my pocket and late season is coming up soon. I can't wait to get back out there.

Missouri hunter grew up small country town (slater mo) farming family that never had much and depended on hunting for our main food source. Growing up hunting anything and everything in Missouri you can hunt my dad and I always talked about how it would be so awesome to elk hunt with bow but have never had the money. I now have a job where I was able to pay for my tags and my dads so we were able to what I thought would be a one time deal but we are now hooked and attend to go every year.

I'm from Utah and have been elk hunting for the last 10 years. I'm interested in backpacking equipment, hunting knives,  and optics.

Glad to join up here and learn all I can and maybe even contribute a little bit.

Cory,

Have been a bow hunter since I could draw a bow. 2nd year chasing elk with a bow. Just ordered a new obsession and am stoked to get it in the woods. I have found my new passion on the high country chasing these ghosts. Had a few great encounters last year and was taken to school by 2 nice 5 by 5's. Learned from mistakes and Lord willing will suceed this year.  I am a good listener if anyone would like to share tips. Good meeting everyone.
