What did you do today....

ripped out the 8 foot of curb for the driveway extension, with only a k12 and a maul..... and lots of sweat. did take the boys to minions movie for my youngest\'s bday :D

Ah, Iowa in July. Enjoy the humidity.

Continuing workouts here ... plugging along. Hope to get out and scout a bit tomorrow in a possible 2016 spot.

Shooting one (or two) shot(s) before work each day.

I\'m the kind of shooter who more than occasionally gets worse the more he shoots. (And that\'s true of archery, rifles, and even basketball). So, it\'s \"Cold Shot\" practice for me, and it seems to work.

Heading to Oklahoma to put up a camera and check two.
Then bow shop and taxidermy to check on my deer.

Looking forward to seeing the pics!

So much for seeing good pics...... today was one of those if I didn\'t have bad luck, I would have no luck at all days.
HOWEVER, I am going to look at the good in all of it because there is some.
Let me explain.

So, we get out to Oklahoma to check my cameras and..... two dead cameras..... and the third one I brought out is on the fritz.
Another big issue is the two cameras that were out there BARELY caught any animals at all.

Sounds horrible right?
Lets find the good.

This again has been the most rainfall that Oklahoma and NM has seen in YEARS. I mean we have CRUSHED annual averages by almost 14+ inches in Oklahoma. The vegetation growth out there is phenomenal and will produce some ABSOLUTELY MONSTER BUCKS.
Rack growth will be at its best year yet, so I am not even remotely upset.

Here is an example:

This picture above is taken from last year and this is about how tall the vegetation got in this area.

This picture is the SAME exact spot, only from this year and showing all the growth....

Mind blowing!

Oh well, we did get a few pictures of some deer, but also some VERY interesting pictures because it was only taking pics of stuff that basically walked right into it... check this out.

I didn\'t even know badgers lived out there :upthumb:

So after we left Oklahoma we decided to go to check on my 2014 back at the taxidermy.
Well, we get in there and they ask me what number I was again.
I tell them and they say, oh, we are way past that now, yours is done, lets find it!

SO I get SUPER excited.....

\"Honey, his is the one that the tanner forgot to send his hide back with the right batch. His will come in during the next batch.\"
So mine would have been done today, but tanner had messed up the load he shipped back.

AGAIN with the positive though.
If you guys didn\'t know, I picked this place on a whim. I have no trusted taxidermist down here because I don\'t know anyone. I found this guy and he just has such a great attitude. A proper Texas gentlemen and his super nice wife. So I went with them, but had no idea how their work would come out. Yeah, he had stuff on his wall, but it was all his personnel stuff and it was all older.

WELL, today he had a bunch of mounts that they had just completed and they all looked just fine.
Top of the line trophy winners? maybe not, but they are not bad at all. So that gave me a HUGE smile and put a lot of confidence back into this situation. ALSO another positive is this will be done well before I was originally told. When I dropped it off Nov 29th he told me that it usually takes around a year. Well... this is well before a year.

SO again, today had it\'s ups and downs, but I prefer to look at the ups. This year will be a stellar year with horn growth because of all of the rain and my buck will be done before I thought :upthumb: :upthumb: :upthumb:

We were just messing around and threw the horns on my mount real quick.
We didn\'t even line it up and I took a horrible picture, but BOY am I excited.

Here is another example of the growth out there this year.

Last year the highest I saw this area get was about this.

It was just a little more green.

Now fast forward to this year

Started my day of scouting, herding 2 moose with my SUV. Who knew you could herd moose. They wouldn\'t leave the road.

Spent a lovely evening chatting with my hunting partner and shooting broadheads.

More later. One more day of scouting and checking cameras before heading home.

Wow That is green Dan. Cool pic with the plane flying over. I bet there isn\'t many trail cam pics of those.

There is a C-17 training base about 45 minutes away from where I hunt. It\'s very cool because you can be out there hunting and them come in doing low levels!!!!

Dan, I love your attitude. I am similar in the fact that I always try to look for the positive in things. This world is filled with way too much negative crap and you can get caught up in it very quick. Keep up with that mindset, it\'ll do you very well through life :upthumb:

Errands and chores. Cleaned up camping gear from scouting.

Shot bow from a kneeling position in my basement. All my elk setups are from a kneeling position, therefore, mid to late Summer shooting is 75% from a kneeling position. Getting arm slap for 50% of my shots. I know how to turn my forearm, however, it isn\'t working very well while kneeling. My core may need more work.

Took delivery of a new freezer. Looks very empty :( Needs meat.

Dan, when those planes go over that gives cover for coughing, sneezing or anything else you need to do in your stand that makes noise!

Back to the thread topic, I was able to go to a 3D shoot today. First one I have been able to attend in almost a year. That was fun and then this evening had some great grilled elk burgers. (Thanks Dan!)
