What Do You Shoot?

For your elk hunt, what is your favorite gun or bow to shoot?
I prefer my PSE modified Vendetta set at 65-67 pounds. I have carried it for several years now. It is fast, quiet, and relatively quiet. I like it better than many other bows too because of the narrow grip. I do not like a wide grip rocking around in my hand.

55 years of the 60 years i\'ve hunted for elk it\'s been a Winchester 94 in 30-30 with a 170gr Partition. Close shots in the timber never more than 100yds, but the majority less than 50 yds.

The last 5 years has been the same close hunting with a muzzleloader. Either sidelock, or inline.

2008 Diamond Marquis, 71#. I love it but am gonna buy a new bow this year

I\'m shooting a Hoyt Spider now. I still have my Katera that I bring now as my backup. The only reason I am not still using the Katera is I got the Spider for half price. It was to good a deal to pass up.

Mathews Z7 extreme I believe it\'s a 2011?

I bought it used last year and it\'s honestly the only thing I want to use to hunt... Addicted to bow hunting would be an understatement.

62lb. Prime Shift. Really like it. Smooth and can hold it all day! Well, maybe not that long but I like shooting something I can draw early and hold if I have too.
I like your choices Still Hunter!

Will, do you ever find the length of your stab. getting in the way? B-stinger? I bet it holds steady!

I have the same stab as otcwill. I love mine. I thought I would find it to be in the way but after 3 seasons I have grown accustomed to it and never find it to be in the way.

When I\'m not hunting elk with my bow, I hunt elk with my .340 WBY Mag.
It is my \'one shot wonder\' ;)

Never. My long range groups shrunk immediately when I added this. Yep, b-stinger, 11 oz weight. Super steady. Probably totally unneccessary for WT and most elk hunting but a game changer for pronghorn in the wind or any longer range shot at anything.

Elite Pure, 65#, Whisker Biscuit, no sights. It only has a 36 inch ATA, but shoots very consistently and smoothly with two fingers split. I\'m extremely happy with this bow.

Wow.... No sights. Whats your max range?

Terry, I practice out to 55 yds. I can consistently do a \"pie plate\" size group at 50...after that, not so much!

Thats pretty good. I have been messing around with a recurve and shooting instictive. 20yds is my max with that. I have not killed anything with it. Haven\'t even shot at an animal with it yet. One of these days I will.

Most of my elk have been killed under 20 yds. My longest was a young cow at 45 yds. I find I have way better focus and can hit the spot I want when there is a live animal involved :)

I am shooting a Remington 700 in 300 Ultra Mag. Currently shooting 200 grain Accubonds, but am going to give the 230 grain Berger Hybrids a shot soon and see how they do. The gun is in a Bell and Carlson stock, has a Timney trigger installed, and currently has a Nikon Monarch 4-16x44 on it, although that will be changing after Christmas :D

I also mess around with a Remington R-25 in .308 that I used as a woods gun this year for still hunting. It currently just has a red dot on it, but will have the Monarch as an interchangable option moving forward. I haven\'t figured out my final load for that one yet since I haven\'t been shooting it too far. Based off of what I have done so far, I am guessing it will probably be the 180 grain Accubonds, but we\'ll see.
