I really like the little head lights that clip on the bill of my hat. (Just another good reason to wear a ball cap, Dan) They are $5 or less at Cabelas and you don\'t have to mess with that elastic head band. They are plenty good for use around camp or walking in before daylite.

I really like the little cap lights too. They are adequate for 90% of what I do after dark, like walking out from my stand. I need more light when looking for downed game or for butchering, so I would recommend having an additional headlamp.

X4.

I wear one, carry a backup in case of failure. also have a small handheld flashlight in my pack that very rarely gets used.

that said..... their strength is how lightweight they are. they produce enough light for you to walk by, but not much more.

this year while hiking with a buddy he stopped me and said \"stop.... there\'s a bear about 15-20 yards in front of you\". me and my puny $5 light never saw the bear. In that instance, better light might have been helpful!!!!!

I like wearing brighter lights, just to avoid situations like this....

My frame pack...man, that thing was not comfortable at all carrying out quarters this year. By the time I was done, I had pulled muscles all over my shoulder blades. It seemed that all of the weight sat on my shoulders. I didn\'t realize how bad that thing was because we haven\'t used it in so long. In our previous areas, we have been fortunate to be able to drag an elk downhill to the truck instead of having to quarter it and pack it out. That won\'t be the case in our new area, so time to look at something new. I\'ll post up a separate thread for that.

well, i tried dusk jogging with my blackdiamond headlamp. it is too heavy and big, so it jiggles up and down on my forehead like some sick chinese watertorture device. it is being demoted to my truck headlamp. (add that to my above comments about the janky on/off switch)

note on that: truck headlamp is crucial to me. truck deer camps, i HATE having to use the lamp in my pack. 99% of the time, i will forget to put it back. so i always have one in my truck. i pull up, pull it out of the door pocket i am game on. i usually have to light the way into my friend\'s pack so he can find his headlamp..and you know what? he will forget to put it back!! guaranteed. so i am demoting my headlamp to the truck unit..the truck unit is currently a VERY OLD petzl tikka. it is so dim even with new batteries and the batteries dont last very long at all. that is getting demoted to garage tool box lamp. haha. like retirement home for a headlamp. after that, the garbage.

i just ordered my ZebraLight headlamp. i opted for a AA unit, so now all my batteries are universal. my tiny single AA flashlight, and now my single AA headlamp. i might buy some fancy rechargables, or lithiums..but i now streamlined my pack batteries. i can get by with a single backup, if i head out with fresh batteries in the lights. i cant wait to get it. i\'ve heard great things.

just a quick update.

the ZebraLight H52F is the \"one\". not too bright, not dim at all.

on low it is perfect for that quiet hike in or out. on high, you can do anything you need to in the dark. maybe not bright enough to track blood at night, but i ALWAYS carry a flashlight for that. the flood version lights up a big, really big area in front of me. i havent tried night trail running yet, but it should work.

if i had to nitpick one thing. i would love a red light option, but that isnt gonna happen unless someone makes a snap on filter (which i would lose immediately)

the strap is bit flimsy, but it is very lightweight on your head. i wish the strap wasnt CAMOish. i dont think everything should be camo color. an orange headband would be easier to spot in a dark backpack.
