What's your preferred caliber?

Mathews MR7 flinging a 435 grn Axis ST with a Slick Trick!  I haven't had the privilege of harvesting an elk with a rifle but when I do chase them with one, it is either a 7MM STW or 7MM WSM!!

338-378 Wby for Bear, 250 Gr Partitions
300 Wby for Elk, 200 Gr Partitions
270 Wby for Muleys, 150 Gr Partitions
240 Wby for Whitetails and Pronghorns, 100 Gr Partitions

When not shooting a carbon matrix,  you will find me with my Weatherby 30-378, Nosler 180 grain Accubond, Leupold mark 4.

I enjoy my 30-06 the most. My son likes the 270 better, although it's heavy and he will get frustrated with it during shooting practice. I got best of both worlds - my son prefers to hunt with rifle and I prefer bow - so I am out all bow season, then get to go out again for rifle season.

In 2011 I used my 7mm for elk.  Didn't have luck in getting a bull.  This year I am going with a .300WSM with 180gr Trophy Bonded Tip

300 WSM for me now!  Have  used 30-06 and 308 for many years with great success as well.

They all fill the freezer, but the Slick Trick equipped 500 gr Gold Tips are for filling the wall  ;D

300 Weatherby was what I used. Haven't shot anything with it since 1996. It's all been bow hunting since.

I have both a 7mm and a .300 RUM...  I prefer the rum for elk and the 7 for deer.  But since I caught the archery fever doubt I pull either out for awhile.

I just picked up a model 700 in 280, How do you like the gun and cal

Love the gun, hate the gel pad....sticks to my soft-side gun case like bubble gum.  other than that, mine's a tack driver.  i can get sub-moa groups at 300 yds on a good day.  plus, since it's a .280, you can load it for everything from coyotes to elk.  gotta love versatility!  i used to use a 7x57 almost exclusively, same bullet, just a bigger case on the .280.

almost any will work I now use 300 win mag,but inthe past have killed elk with 30-06,300 savage,308.30-30.cedar arrow with glue on broad head.100 grain fixed and 125 grain expandables. They all work great. ;)
