Why do you like this forum?

1. A wide range of information that is specifically targeted for an endeavor to which I am becoming hopelessly addicted!

2. Actively participating enhances the learning and all in a friendly, helpful environment.

I like that there is no bashing or know it alls. I can come on here and ask the silliest question in the world and have it taken serious, not get flamed for it.

I also like the different levels of experience on this thread. From the newbies to the people who have been doing it 40 years plus, everyone has their info that they can add to threads.

I like helping people succeed at elk hunting.
Life is hard enough and to make a bit easier for someone to be successful is a win-win situation

I love a couple of things about this:

1) Being able to help newbies out and share some of my own experiences from my years in the woods. Hunters are a group that is constantly under attack and we need to stick together. Passing it on and helping is the only way we will continue to grow our sport.
2) I also, from a selfish perspective, love hearing other experienced hunter\'s ideas and thoughts. There is no one way to do things and there is always more to learn. If you aren\'t getting better, you are getting worse.
3) The group of folks here is awesome. There are other forums out there with know-it-all\'s, trolls, etc. This is just a good group of guys and gals who are all willing to help, but no one here thinks they know everything or are the expert when it comes to elk hunting.

It\'s an unusual forum. The questions are not like most hunting forums. It\'s almost like going to elk school here. It gets me thinking about things I just took for granted over the years. Everybody is eager to learn and help.

As was said.....no trolls, know it alls, and arguments. Very rare for a hunting forum, and refreshing.

The forum stinks, but I like the people and the discussions. It appears no one wants a Know-It-All. That is too bad as I was hoping by the time I reach that, grumpy past hunting time of life, to get that position. After all, you really don\'t have to know it all, to be a Know-It-All. You can just play the part. Some folks accept that.

I have been thinking about how to answer this, but I don\'t think I can say it any better then everyone else all ready has.
Most forums I would not say this but there is not anyone on this forum that I would not like to meet someday. Maybe even hunt or go fishing sometime with.

I participate because I like to learn and help any way I can. I have not elk hunted that long but there are other ways to help others out.

Swede, since the letters \'site admin.\' are published after your name everyone is too afraid to be honest and tell you that some on here believe that you are on the threshold of descending into the period of which you speak! :p

You have already reached that grumpy, past hunting time of life. It\'s easy to tell because you have resigned yourself to perching in a tree like a monkey with a prehensile tail hoping an elk will come passing by and throw you a banana. :haha:

\"Naa, naa, naa\" as the goat says on the Capitol One advertisement. I am not grumpy yet. You will know I have made it when I can kick a good friend off the forum, and a few others too, because of a thread to a link for someone giving instructions on elk calling.

Swede at least that happening got the best elk hunting forum out there started with the best people here :D

Elk hunting mentoring for newbies without the drama of bashing me for asking stupid questions.

I know I ask a lot of stupid questions. I did not come from a hunting family and I didn\'t have friends who hunted.

The gear, camp and archery tips are an added bonus.

Lastly, the encouragement I receive is priceless. Some family members have questioned my choice to keep trying without having been successful. It isn\'t because they are against hunting. They don\'t see the point of why I keep trying.

mtnmutt you don\'t ask stupid questions. You ask questions that are important to you. They told me when I joined the fire service there is no such thing as a stupid question. I as many others here feel the same way about any type of hunting.

Remember all those spikes that are in love with you are a year older now ;)

I can think of no stupid or empty questions asked by anyone on an elk hunting forum. I have read some questionable bragging. I don\'t pay a lot of attention to it, but if it causes an inexperienced hunter to follow a persons advice and they are just blatting something they read or heard, that could be a problem. Some of us will point out the error of such statements if they are a serious problem.
Mtnmutt, maybe you can find someone to go on a scouting trip into your area, and you can find where some good possibilities to catch an elk of guard is. I would like to see your picture on the 2014 meat pole thread. There are a bunch of folks that I would like to see with their smiling picture and a downed elk. After all that is why we have this forum.

I just enjoy the company of others who share the same passion as I do . Listening to the questions & answers seem to fire me up for the upcoming game we will all play in shortly. The bashing, belittling & sarcastic posts I see on other forums just makes me appreciate this place more. Just a bunch of great guys & gals with the same addiction I have. I\'ve never been kicked off a forum, but when some friends of mine did, I abandoned that ship & haven\'t looked back. It certainly would be fun to put some of you old guys in the same camp for a week or two. Now that could become very interesting!

I was thinking the same thing. The CO calve recruitment in 2012 was terrible, therefore, I don\'t think there are a lot of 2.5 year olds out there for this year. However, I only need one. CO antler growth should be good this year.

You guys and gals are the best. Thanks again for your time and patience in answering the questions on the forum. I wish you all the best for your coming season.
