Oregon deadline for applying for tags is May 15th..... no elk here though.

What hunts are you all expecting to get this year? Me, 100% chance to draw my muzzle loader elk, 50% chance for muzzle loader deer and 25% chance additional deer here in Oregon. These are all limited entry hunts. All within an hour drive from my home.

The date, time is wrong in this picture but I still really liked this one with the snow and all. Guess it's not all ways about the killing for me,,,, dang I am getting old.

Any one thinking about applying in Oregon that is a non resident should remember this. Outfitter tags will affect your chance of drawing a tag. Here is a prime example... a good friend (resident) applied with his brother (non resident) for a hunt in the Mount Emily unit a couple of years ago...

In Oregon you get one preference point every year that you do not draw your first choice. Over the years there has been a real point creep to where it can take any where from 5 to 15 years to draw a tag in some units. I think that the point system needs a big over haul. One idea would be 50%...

Ron wold has posted the odds of drawing tags here in Oregon. As a resident I am 100% to draw my any elk muzzleloader tag. Google his name and you will find the website.

I have bivy hunted, staying with the elk for several days. Any one do this? can't get within range or back out to just sleep with the herd? slept on steep hill sides and marsh bottoms...solo... you?

Any one here hunt elk with a smoke pole? I love hunting elk with the old front stuffer. I am 100% chance to draw my resident any elk this year in Oregon but ODFW changed the regs. Any elk out side of National forest, bull only in the boundry. I use to hunt only with my bow, now a cross over...
