2013 Standards

Unless I draw a New Mexico elk tag I will be focusing on Muley's in Wyoming and Utah so I will only have the general archery elk tag in Utah. I will chase a few elk on the wasatch front when time allows but since I did not kill an elk this year I will need to fill the freezer next year for sure. If I can bring in an elk with my heads up decoy it will get an arrow regardless of size or sex.

Muley's on the other hand I have some high expectations with my Wyoming hunt. I just need someone to hold my release for me until we actually have a shot at the 170-200 inch buck I have been dreaming about. I still get too damn excited with the first four point I have in shooting distance.

Here in Oregon, especially western Oregon, any bull is a trophy.  I always say first legal elk, but I have passed on cows most years in hopes that a bull is not to far behind ;D  Oh, Well.  It is the experience that we are after.  If it were just filling the freezer buying beef would be cheaper ;D

Do to the fact that I am from Michigan, and only get to spend about 2 weeks out west every year, and 3 or 4 of those days are for scouting, and giving my body some time to adjust to the altitude.
I will shoot the first legal Bull.

Would like to take a P&Y Roosevelt here in SW Washington but most likely will shoot the first 5 point that comes in.

Montana will be the first 6x6 that comes in

I utilize a complicated equation to solve this...

Number of Days Remaining + Number of Animals I've Seen x Distance I Will Have to Pack It < or = The Desire for Meet in the Freezer +/- B&C Score of the Animal.

Well said!!!

Same as always Mature 6x6 or better with archery equipment in Idaho. If I get lucky and draw in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, or Montana I will hold out for something real special.

I have hunted with the motto that I will hunt for a big bull and at times a certain bull.  Eaten a few tags and as of yet have never shot a bull less than a five point.  I have 40 years of bow hunting under my belt and am proud to love the hunt not the kill.

Most likely I'll fling a muzzy at the first legal bull I have an opportunity at. Colorado DIY public land wilderness backpack hunt. This will be my second year and I arrowed a 4x5 this past fall but saw how hard it was for my buddy that was along. And he's gone the past 5 years without punching his tag. We'll see though. Would sure like to carry a 300"+ off the mountains. Either way, I can't wait. Less than 8 months to go.
