cnelk\'s 2014 Archery Elk Hunt - 3 elk down!!!

Sounds like ya elk huntin\' is kinda like our duck huntin\'... When ya get down to the last un it\'s hard to put one were he needs to be to get shot... But it happens more so sooner than later..

Finally caught up!! Congrats on all of the elk down guys! I cant wait to see pics.

I do have a question though. I think I have now heard of 3 frontal elk kills on this site in the past two days. Is a frontal shot common?
I thought frontal shots were taboo?

Regardless, CONGRATS :upthumb:

If ya can hit a spot the size of a golf ball (I think Lew says tennis ball) all the time ya shoot, it\'s deadly....

I can all day while shooting at a target, I just know how things can change in the woods.
The only time I felt comfortable doing frontals was with a rifle on a whitetail.

You guys are some great shots! I just don\'t know that I could do it :dk:

It\'s called \"ice water in ya veins\"...  But if ya don\'t feel comfortable DO NOT take it... It\'s all in ya comfort zone... ;) ;)

Yep! I am right there with you. I trust and rely on my comfort zone. I practice out to 60 yards with my bow, but would never shoot past 45.
I trust myself, it\'s other factors I don\'t trust :D

It\'s a 15 yard-and-under shot.

It\'s devastating, though.

It seems like an effective shot, even more if you\'re hunting solo and they are coming in directly at you.

Maybe this will be something I practice for, just in case. Where about on the elk are you shooting at?

Congrats Guys (Brad, John, et al)

I only hope my elk hunt is half as exciting as your first week! :dk:

I agree, Mine was at 10yrds at best. I did the gutless method so I did not see the inside to see the damage, it had to be massive because the bull died in about 10 seconds.

Do you have a specific spot you aim for or is it a shot that is suppose to go in an hit something in the boiler room, whether it\'s a heart, lung, etc.

Sounds like yours died as fast as mine did and mine hit the heart.
He was dead before he took his first step, he just didn\'t know it yet.

Sorry to hear that Brad, but probably a good thing in the end. A wise man once told me that \'nothing spoils a good elk hunt like killin\' an elk.\' Although he never said anything about killing two elk...

I missed....
Right over the back...

Story coming sometime ;(

At least it was a clean miss. I\'d rather that than a bad hit.
You will meet it again, OR A BIGGER ONE :upthumb:

Glad to know it happens to everyone!

and +1 on the clean miss part ... much better than a wounded animal.

So ... down to 3 arrows now?
