Great day, for sure. That\'s not to say that mistakes weren\'t made, or that a few \"audibles\" needed to be called at the line. But what a good day to be out and about. I learned a lot.

We had a great time!

I will attempt to live the hunt here with some pics and vids and some story telling along the way

We left Laramie at 4:45am drove about 30 minutes to the ranch, unloaded the ATVs and headed out to the water hole several miles away

The morning was perfect

As we discussed, there\'s not a HUGE importance of being to the pond at O-Dark-Thirty ... but the sunrise was great out on the prairie ...

I think the prairie is the least-appreciated landscape, and I\'m not sure why. We don\'t all live by the Tetons, for crying-out-loud!

Prairie landscape is unique in its own way for sure.
It amazing how animals can appear and disappear in the wide open spaces

Nothing better than a sunrise to greet you on Opening Day!

The first visitors to the water hole were 3 baby foxes.
They sure were entertaining.

The next set of visitors were the quarry for which Deertick had a license!

John had decided that a mature buck was the intended animal for the day.
The does and fawns must have told the bucks this because we had multiple groups of does and fawns visit the water hole

The day was starting to heat up.
There was a lull in the antelope sightings so we got out of the blind to stretch our legs and back.

When we got back in the blind, we had another prairie visitor.
Badgers have the look \'You owe me money\' when they glance your way

There was pretty much non stop action out on the prairie.
Anywhere you looked off in the distance, you could see antelope and you never knew when some would come your way.

And of course, the fox pups made another return for a drink

We had another lull and the wind was starting to pick up so we decided to move the blind back next to the water pump and tank and tie it off.
This made for a longer shot across the pond, but it broke up the outline of the blind much better.
Plus, the wind wouldnt blow it away!

Stay tuned everyone, the good stuff is up next!!!

A little while later I peeked thru the blind window and saw 2 bucks working their way in!
I told John, \'2 shooters coming in!!\'

They were out about 150yds and slowly working their way in.

One finally committed and came in to the water hole!

I was getting ready to film, and John was getting ready to shoot ...

The buck was going to be at 28yds....

All of a sudden WHAP!!!!

John!!!! Whaaa Happened????!!!!

As John was about to settle the pin, he bumped his trigger and the arrow flew WAAAAAYYYYY over the back of the buck!

&%$(&#%#%&)%)%@%@)%%!!!!!!

The buck didnt know what was gong on and wasnt alarmed.

He moved a little bit further out and stood there as another group of does and fawns came running in!!!

As we all know, things happen so fast when hunting.

The does and fawns ran right up to the water hole. The buck mixed in with them.

I ranged the buck for John .... 35yards!!

The wind was blowing left to right. The buck was walking right to left...

Here he is right as the arrow hit him....

[These are all snap shots of the video and you will see the entire video and pics at the end ]

the vid and pics are a bit out of focus.... sorry!
