Seasons are coming in soon everyone...

I am less than 3 months away from my elk hunt.

So with the seasons closing in, don\'t forget to do your routine maintenance on your hunting rigs.
We don\'t need you breaking down in the back country or not even being able to make it to camp because of some issues.

Brakes, lights, belts, tires, etc.... Check them all :upthumb:

I\'m serious! Take care of your trucks, SUVS, or hunting cars.

If you all remember, I had my serpentine belt snap in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma.
Luckily I have to fresh batteries because it\'s a diesel and I was able to drive home, but that could have been real bad.

i\'m a car guy..

all over it. dont forget your gear oil in your front/rear differentials..and your transfer cases. the tacoma book says every 35,000 miles..which is way ambitious..but i still do it. and i use sythetic Red Line oil.

first time i did it, it blew me away out dirty the front diff oil was.. (bought my truck used)

hunting with the occasional water crossing, dust..dirt...towing, hills..the gear oil takes a beating.

I just did mine along with my internal and external tranny filter/oil. :upthumb:

Right on schedule for oil changes, will have another the week before hunting season. Tires have never missed a rotation and are wearing amazingly well. Differentials will get taken care of when it turns 45k miles which will be around when my next oil change is due.

Biggest concern is the friggen corrosion occurring around the battery terminals. It\'s always done it since new but has gotten considerably worse the last couple months. I am getting really tired of cleaning it off. :mg:

Do you wire brush it and then add the corrosive preventative goo?

Baking soda mixed with water or Coca Cola will clean terminals.
Just take them off and soak for a few mins in a cup or container
A wire brush after and all should be good

I carry a hydraulic jack, blocks, jumper cables, FixAFlat, extra oil, gas and antifreeze at all times.
And of course a tool box

check your voltage regulator. i\'d venture a guess that it is over charging (at least charging on the higher side of the specs)..not enough to hurt the battery, but enough to cause that white corrosion crap to develop.

my tacoma doenst corrode at all..my past chevy ZR2 did..i mentioned it to my mechanic buddy, and he said it was the regulator.

i think 14.8V at higher RPM is pretty normal, but on the high side? cant remember. either way, no damage but mostly annoyance.

I put new shocks on before the fishing trip to winnie with the pops. got tot he mtn and there was a ton of banging up front. come to find the lower shock bolt fell out..... dang, that has never happened before  it was a noisy and bumpy 13 hours home!
I did just replace the air filter. all fluids were replaced just before last years Idaho trip :D

I did as you suggested Dan. I don\'t want truck problems when I head out this season. I just changed brakes, oil, ATF, tires, suspension, wipers, exhaust, steering fluid, coolant, seats, body.....luckily it only ran me a little over 30 grand. :dance2:

lolololol buy something new?

Ya...lol. 2014 F150 supercrew 4x4 with the 3.5L freakoboost. It\'s new and with the 2015s out they had a lot of factory rebates on the 14s.
I was forced to do it because of the good rebates. :dk: I didn\'t want to but I couldn\'t help it. Crazy how much power they can stuff into a puny 6 cylinder.

Congrats Luke!!!!!!!!

I think I got a good deal.....It was 11k off MSRP. They wanted 42k and got 31. I probably would not have picked BRIGHT red but they only had a few 2014s left. White and Red. Not the best color to hide in the woods but if I am in trouble any aircraft should spot my truck right? lol Beggars can\'t be choosers when you are getting last years model. I don\'t normally go for all the bells and whistles but this has a back up cam even. That\'s nice when I am backing up to my trailer hitch. I have a growing family too so the crew cab will be nice.
