Nice truck!

You know what you have to do now......

lol...I\'m all ears man.

Cliff....I am getting 16 in town. It is funny how I never used to pay attention to how I drive per say. If you ask my friends they would tell you I am NOT gentle on the throttle. But since I have that fuel economy display I find myself driving like Swede....eeeeeeeasy on the pedal just hoping to bump that mileage one tenth! One more....just one more! Most of my driving is in town unfortunately. So far when I have been on the highway I am around 20 mpg. Where I have honestly been floored is with the power. Ridiculous. DO NOT test drive one. I have a 6,000lb travel trailer and with my 2005 F150 (I sold her on craigslist) I had the throttle on the floor boards going up the pass here locally and would be pegged out at about 34-35 mph. It had a V8. This truck...I was probably a quarter to half throttle and doing 65. The gerbils they put in that motor must be on roids. Towing that trailer my mpg is a lot lower though (don\'t have exact numbers there) but that is to be expected I suppose. I can\'t wait to take my buddy over to our hunting spot in eastern Oregon. He is younger than I am and he ages more quickly when I am driving us over. :haha:

Now you need to christen it with a kill! It\'s not official until it sees some blood...

I currently get around 19-20 in town and 22-25 highway in my diesel.
Here soon I will be doing much better than that.

I have a friend that did that and loved the results! That sounds awesome. :train:

Diesels may be expensive, but it doesn\'t take much to get some good horse power or gas milage out of them.
Like I said, my 3/4 does over 20mph.

I just want to get it to 25 with a tune :D

Good call Dan! I hadn\'t had my truck for 3 weeks when I had two antelope in the back of it :D After that, it\'s easy to just consider it a hunting rig and not worry about future scratches and dings.

Now, other things you COULD do with it...little lift, tires, rims, aftermarket suspension...I\'ll just stop there before I make you go broke :haha:

There are plenty of ways we could help you spend that $11k you saved though!

Thanks Derek! My wife will appreciate the heck out of that! I would love to get better side mirrors for towing, better off road tires (I think the factory ones are...uh...junk) and some other toys too!

:dk:

My last two elk hunts out west I just rented a truck right here at home and drove it out. Last year I had a Chevy 4 door pickup (4X4) and got it for 308 a week with unlimited mileage. I took my tool box out of mine, tossed it in the rental and away I went.

Check the spare tire.
Its usually up underneath and \'outta sight/outta mind\' applies.
Make sure it it has full air pressure

So, what do you guys make sure you have in your truck when you head in to hunt? What is a must have in there?

- Tow Rope
- Spare diesel in a jerry can
- Floor jack with two stands
- Tool set
- Bike tire pump
- Shovel
- Jumper cables
- Spare flashlight for emergencies only (Cant tell you how many times I have needed a light when something happened at night)

That\'s just a rough list, but a good start.

headlamp
roll of TP
small hand shovel
large Bahco bow saw with spare blades - you would not want to trust me with a chainsaw
Leather work gloves
duct tape
scissors and/or leatherman
Various lengths of bungee cord tie downs
spare headlight bulb - most small mountain town\'s deputies & some city police will pull you over for a light out, so they can run your plates. Plus, one headlight on a Forest Service road is not fun. Check all your lights before you head to the CO mountains, otherwise, you may get pulled over in the small towns.

I always keep a headlamp in my vehicles. A cheap Walmart one will do. I use lithium batteries because they work better in the cold and the headlamps in vehicles do not get used much. My cheap 1998 Honda Civic dome light is pathetic, so I use the headlamp in that car a lot in Winter. I used to keep just a flashlight in the vehicles. Flashlights are not hands free, so I stopped using them.

Lots of great info there.

I usually make sure I have a come-along, jack, tool set, a gallon of antifreeze, water-jug,quart of oil, gas can with gas (no diesel here) air pump, tow rope, slime tire repair (in case I get more than one flat) battery jumper, work gloves.

Never thought of the chain saw, that\'s a great idea

Depending on when and where you are hunting a set of tire chains can be a big help. Some bring a set for the front and rear.
