i tried like heck to get a deer/hog when my wife would loan me her Forester..just for the awesome photo potential. you nailed it!!! my wife was happy i failed..
yesterday..took a look at my tires. woof!! i run Michelins..so they are maybe 40% remaining in life. but i put on 60,000 miles on those things. there is tread left, but damn..i not entirely confident. haha. they have been on my truck for 6 years.
one last trip. i\'ll buy new tires before my next hunt.
funny story about my tires. i flew to los angelos to buy my truck used. i paypal $500 to the seller to hold it until saturday so i could fly down there to see it. he agreed and fended off the hoard of buyers. he was selling the 2006 tacoma for $19k which was cheap!!! it was 2008-09 when i bought it. low miles. trucks local to me were $24-26k. i told the guy, i never show up.the $500 is his to keep. he was agreeable.
i flew down. truck was a beauty!! i pulled the wad of cash and bought it after the test drive. the tires were smooth bald!!! i drove to san fran with the wife like that. coming off of a graveyard shift- flight to LA..my wife drove. butt puckering with the bald tires..but we made it. the next day, my wife bought me tires. she bought tires SHE LIKED..not the bad ass mud terrains i envisioned. she got 4 season mud/snow Michelins!! i was so bummed!! i figured, wear these out..buy new ground crushing, rock spewing TRUCK MANLY TIRES!!
well a few points:
1. these tires have crazy strength..they do not wear out. 60,000 miles and counting.
2. mpg is excellent
3. noise is non existent.
4. you can do crazy ass 4x4 driving up and down mountains in IDAHO and AZ with them. annoys the fully prepped JEEPs in AZ perfectly fine when you follow them up hills. then hop on the highway for the thousands of miles of driving to get home.
5. zero flats.
now that i am buying new tires soon..i think i am getting the same ones it is so annoying when my wife is always right.
Well, tried to stay ahead of the curve and took my truck in for some brake work and an oil change. Turns out my ball joints are shot on my upper control arm. Went to replace the ball joints on my own, but the parts don\'t fit. Turns out that the design has changed and I need new completely new arms. Luckily the 4x4 company I got them from is giving me a break on the cost, but still a bunch of money and now work to get them installed. Just glad I found out now instead of in a few weeks. A busted ball joint on the mountain wouldn\'t have been much fun!
