Wow!!!! What a great shot!
Any idea how the elk died?
A couple of guys from Texas told me they lost a bull. I went to the area and used my nose to find him. Took a few pictures, cut the horns off and put a tree stand over the carcus. I was in the stand when this guy walked in. One of my friends in Camp lives in Texas, and he took the horns, his arrow and pictures to the guy . It was his 1st elk. He had used a Rage expandable broadhead that did not open plus he made a really poor shot.

Shame the broad head didn\'t open up, but you got some awesome pictures from it.
All of these are great pictures. I really like the eagles and that muddy elk!
Thanks Dan, we have something in common. We both live in \" Clovis \" lol
Just different states! I live in Calif.
I\'m not a fan of expandables on elk. I\'ve taken 27 with 3 blade fixed broadheads. I have found 4 dead elk in the last 10 years that were lost due to expandables

haha I have had people think I was from Cali before when I said I lived in Clovis.

I only shoot fixed broad heads. I don\'t like the additional variable that expandables bring.
For example, some have rubber bands, some have \"spider clips\" and other varies methods that hold the expandable portion in place.

So you can run into a few different potential issues.

1) while stalking/walking/ moving through brush or thick stuff, it can snag on your head and open it.
2) inadvertent opening while it\'s being shot, making it less accurate
3) failure to open at impact

I am not saying it\'s common and I will not bash anyone who shoot them, but for the reasons I stated above, I will not shoot them.
I have enough things I have to battle just getting a chance to shoot an elk, I don\'t want to add another thing to possibly mess it up.

I hope you don\'t mind, but I moved it in here because we have tons of species being hunted by everyone in here.
In hopes for a good deer season, I plan on posting as many pics as I can from this year.

Pretty sure this is the same deer I saw last year.

Here are a couple I shared in my elk write up, but I\'ll put them here as well:
