Well, my week didn\'t go nearly as well as Dan\'s did!! I sat that exact stand - thinking now it was my camo that gave me away!!
After 2 1/2 days of bad weather, I decided to find a spot on one of the food plots that had some fresh tracks. Went in on Monday afternoon and found a nice cedar to whittle down. Got it all cut out, branched in, etc...
Went back that evening and had a mulie doe come in for an hour then a buck - each on different ends of the plot. Well, the young buck decided to go after her and meandered past my cedar at 8 yards! He pushed her back by me and I got busted drawing when they hit the edge of the field. Damn.
Last morning so went back to food plot. Sat for 2 hours and figured it wasn\'t going to happen. Had to pee really bad and had dug a hole close by with cedar clipping around. Eased out of chair to ground and was trying to get through layers of clothes to look up and see young mulie buck from last night - 40 yards and headed my way. CRAP! I just froze hoping the cedar branches would keep me concealed. It worked. He walked past just eating the wheat. I was able to draw from the ground and settled my 25 yard pin and let it fly! Wasn\'t 100% sure of the hit and found no blood on the food plot or along the grass edges.
Went arrow looking and found it about 60 yards away covered with blood but couldn\'t decide if the matter on the arrow was from stomach or dirt so backed out for 2 hours. No blood found. Started doing a grid search. Walked up on him laying under a tree with a lung/heart shot! It was high but clipped top of both and he went maybe 70 yards. Got it field dressed and out to a butcher in OKC that afternoon.
Rest of my rifle hunt was uneventful other than whacking 2 football size piglets with my 7 mag with 1 shot. Hogs are ruining this property so it\'s mandatory that we shoot every one we can so I did my part and nothing left for the grill!!
