What did you do today....

Sitting on my ass. My pack in was heavy!

118 Days (17 weeks) until CO opening day archery.

Worked on arrows that needed re-fletching and trimmer line. 3.1 mile fast walk.

Gentle reminder. It takes on average 8 weeks to build up muscles to the peak needed for something like a race. In general, I start at least 11-12 weeks before a race to seriously train. If you injure yourself, you set yourself back.

4 days after I was released from my post-operation restrictions, I re-injured my SI joint moving a treadmill. I initially injured it last summer moving which caused me to take it easy during hunting season. This recent injury took me 10 days to fix, so I wasn\'t in pain or limping and I could resume all activities.

Warming up & stretching goes a long way to prevent injury. Warm up before an activity. Cool down & stretch after an activity. Stretching before an activity is no longer recommended because it elongates muscles and can lead to injury. I do the same warm up & stretching when hunting, otherwise, I would never crawl out of my tent each day. Stiff muscles suck when its 20 degrees outside and I am trying to get my body to move.

Pace yourselves. Be smart and be ready for opening day.

Who wants to be left in camp nursing an injury? Even light activity & stretching goes a long way to prepare.

cleaned up horse poop in the pasture, trimmed hooves, and rode horse for a bit. got an arm workout today..... off to dinner with a fire buddy\'s family.

Been doing a ton of yard work and planting trees, but was able to sneak out to finalize my load development for my rifle. 1\" group at 300 yards should do the trick! Now I have to get to the reloading bench and get a bunch of them thrown together.

Thanks Dan! I was even a little surprised with that...with that kind of luck, maybe I should have been betting on the horse race instead!

Church, honey do lists, practiced making my own trail mix, and worked out.

2 miles run, chest, and I have this new routine that I do with my pack and gun.
It\'s anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour wearing my pack and holding my gun.
I use a 15 inch step up block and just do step ups the whole time.

We don\'t have hills here, so this has to do

Dan If you live anywhere near a tall building like a hotel or hospital walk the stairs. You can also find some bleachers possibly at a high school.

No tall buildings or areas with stairs, but walking up bleachers is a great idea!
I can definitely do that and it at least puts me outside, not in my garage.

I just can\'t bring my gun while practicing on the bleachers, that wouldn\'t end well.

Thanks for the recommendation Terry! :upthumb:

Wow. Took my wife and BIL to a high end Sunday brunch. Ate way too much and it landed me in a food coma. Nappy time! Serious nap. It took all my will to strap on my trail shoes but I got it done. Almost puked but I finished strong. Haha. Salad and fruit for the rest of the week.

Cliff,
more details about the food!!!!!!

Gary,
Sounds like a good time!

I just finished a back workout, 10 minutes of jump romping and 15 minutes of step ups.

3 mile bike ride with the boys and then a little baseball after supper with them.

Sounds like a good day. Enjoy them while they are young. They grow up fast. I need to get my bike out and get riding.

I started shooting my bow again today. I did not lose much if anything over the winter. I went 4 for 7 in the 2 inch bulls eye at 30 yards. One arrow was right next to the line and the other two were within one inch. That is as good as I normally shoot.

Nice!

You know what surprised me? I\'d argue I shoot my bow better than I shoot a rifle. I\'m awful!

I used to be some freaky phenom with my rifle. I laid them down in 2007, now I can\'t hit the side of a barn from inside the barn. I\'m going to start over at resighting from a bench off of sandbags. Maybe my scope is off.

John, as a doc you might be somewhat interested in this book I am reading. It was refered to my wife from a Mayo Clinic doc. It explains how a calorie in doesn\'t equal a calorie out. It also explains how all calories are not the same. It goes into great depth about exercise too. More is not always better. It pushes eccentric exercise. I will be trying it starting Sunday.

No doubt about that ... portion size matters, of course, but the quality of a person\'s feed is important, too.
