awesome, congrats dan, musta been a big one, hes actually smiling

Looking at Dan\'s eyes I don\'t think that\'s a smile... More of what I look like when I\'m struggling to breathe... :D

Well, I finally snuck out yesterday afternoon for what was supposed to be a quick 24 hour hunt. Got to camp at 5:00 yesterday and was out in the woods by 5:30. Covered some ground and made a few location bugles with no luck. Was also checking some trail cams with nothing much there either. I did learn one thing very quick though: archery hunting requires a ton of extra crap! I typically hunt with a fanny pack to try to minimize what I take with me, but man did that suck! Add in a bugle tube, calls, a rangefinder that is within reach instead of in my pack, and a few more items I added because I was solo and I had no room. I decided to move one camera and ended up having to carry it in one hand with my bow in another. Not terrible, until I happened on a mountain lion kill and grabbed the head on the right in this pic.

Paraded around the rest of the evening with a bow in one hand and a game cam and head in the other hand, until dropping the cam 90 minutes later at a new location. Oh, and did I mention my pants kept wanting to fall down?? Try occupying both hands and then pulling your pants up every 30 seconds...if I wasn\'t in the woods hunting, I might have been angry :D Luckily I brought along my Full Curl pack, so after making it back to camp last night, I made the exchange. Although it added some back sweat, it was MUCH better :upthumb:

Got up this morning and hit a high point to do some glassing. I also happen to have service at this particular point and sure enough, I get a text shortly after arriving...my wife was up all night sick and needed help with the kids. So I quickly covered some ground back to camp, while checking two more cameras. Needless to say, the trip was not a bust! The last camera I checked had these guys on there from last week...

I don\'t think I\'ll be able to get back out there for another week and a half, but we\'ll see!

I saw too many elk to count. Had 4 different 300\"+ bulls plus 2 p&y 6x6\'s in archery range. Killed a nice bull and found a great dead head that only cost me $10 to acquire from the state of New Mexico.

Welcome to the site Chris, and great pictures! Good luck on your hunt. Would love to hear the results!

Dan, have them send some mojo my way! Really slow but hope things pick up after ML ends tomorrow. Talked to a local guide and he confirmed how slow it is. Temps 50-70. Windy during day.

I figure it\'s halftime and got 1 week left. Will check back soon - hopefully with a bull pic!

Good luck, Russ!

Here\'s mine! Just kiddin, but this is a friend of mine that graduated from high school a year before me. We could almost pass as twins except he\'s fatter.LOL! I posted the pic for Russ as this is a 201 bull from this week. Wherever he was hunting he said was ON FIRE! Passed on multiple bulls in the 300- 330 range. Russ, maybe your looking in the wrong places. If he will give me some info I would be happy to share.

Great bull Dave and tell Shawn congrats too!

I think this hunt is about done - just don\'t have any wind left in my sails so to speak. Biggest mistake I think was going at this solo. When my backup to backup plans don\'t produce, I am about out of options. Beautiful treestand over spring but 0 activity. Will post bull pics off water where Lou shot his 2 years ago and they\'re pathetic looking.

Bulls were heated up last week but I didn\'t get an opportunity and they are spread out like crazy. Oh, well, that\'s why they call it hunting not shooting right?

Will sit tank stand 2 more nights then home to rest up if nothing taken.

Russ, I\'ve got a phone number for you. The guy said he would gladly share his Intel. You have waited along time for this hunt & here\'s a plan z. He said where he was hunting was the \"Disneyland of elk hunting\" It was on Diamond off the \" high trail\" quad trail. Call me, call him, but don\'t give up!

Keep at it Russ! You can do it. Maybe a little intel is all you need at this point to make the difference?

Good luck Russ !

I get home tomorrow and will be in the elk woods on Thursday!
Hope to finish out the season with some elk blood
