2016 ELK update thread!

My buddies bad luck...

That looks like something I would do, Roman....

I\'m sure I\'m not the only other one that\'s done that... :D :D

Was your buddy shooting at a bull????

Yup, a 5x5. My buddy and 3 brothers are headed back now. They saw over 100 elk over 3 days, but only one shot opportunity.

Dang it!

I have unscrewed a few broadheads from trees and limbs over the years too!

Any word from Pinky? :) I know he didn\'t have good, if any, cell coverage but thought he\'d have climbed up a tree by now and given everyone a report!

Slow hunting down in Southern CO at least on private land on lower elevation. Gave up a possible spot and stalk on a cow so the ranch hand\'s son could try and get on a bull with his rifle. Long story but I made the wrong choice even though it was the right decision at the time!

Good news is CP&W extended the end date on my cow tag until 2/27/2017! It\'s a PLO rifle cow tag. So, I can go back down after archery season which is a huge bonus.

I haven\'t heard much at all from Dan... :dk:

Russ, when do you leave for the big hunt?

They probably threw him in jail for impersonating a hunter while wearing a pink cap and shorts....

My brother missed a 6x6 under 30yds this weekend. He didn\'t see a couple of branches that deflected the arrow.

I hate those trees and limbs that jump out and grab my arrows...

Ya\'ll will get them... I\'ve got confidence you will... :upthumb: :upthumb: :upthumb:

Arky, that\'s funny! And he\'ll pull out his pink diaphragm call showing it matches his hat!

Derek, I\'m leaving Saturday morning. It was too far to drive for the 3 day weekend so I went to my backup place in Alamosa. Picked up a chest freezer last night and loaded on trailer with ATV. Thinking positive!!! PLUS, since I can keep it plugged in at the place I\'m staying, it expands my food options if I have to stay for 2 weeks.

Actually, getting a little nervous along with the excitement.

Well, we have an update from Dan...he is a man of his word! If you look close, I think he is even smiling. He looks pretty darn happy in that glorious cap of his

Awesome Russ, well good luck! Can\'t wait to hear the report. Nothing to be nervous about though...should be the trip of a lifetime regardless of if you fill your tag!

I was getting nervous about dan. he threatened to send me that hat before I left. I guess there is still a chance, since we are leaving tonight after work. I better go home and check my mail

Appreciate the well wishes everyone! Never been on a 2 week hunt then add in solo and it\'ll be an adventure to say the least. Heard from another hunter that the muzzie hunters are out in full force(5 cow and 10 bull tags). It\'s a really big unit but seems a concentration area is around where I\'m staying/hunting.

Oh, well, just use that pressure to my advantage and I\'ll be there a week after muzzie season ends to close the deal!

Leaving in the morning so today will be crazy with work and cooking and packing.

Best of luck to those that are going out as well!

This is never a bad sign...except for that hat I guess!

Way to go Dan. Can\'t wait for the stories!

Surprisingly slow and quiet up NW area. 1 small bull and zero bugling. Will try to post in am - seem to have good coverage from my morning glassing point.
