The thing I am most excited for this year is hopefully trying out some new areas. Its always exciting for the unknown hoping that hard work and deep thought pays off.

This off season I have been doing some exercising, and looking at maps.  Always looking at maps! Plus Turkey hunting, its great preparation.

My tidbit of advise (from a one time success guy) be persistent.  It pays off and the experiences that you gain are priceless.  The memories last forever.

I come from a family of non hunters and started bow hunting with a buddy in Colorado 6 years ago. Since the beginning its been a borderline addictive passion that I have no yearning to kick in this life time. For beginners without any hunting upbringing, go to hunting stores, trade shows, shooting clubs and conservation events and be super open with the fact that you are a beginner wanting to learn. The hunting community is extremely supportive.

Thank you for the Sitka Giveaway........my wife and I still talk about "The Linguists".  Applied for and drew a Wyoming GEN bull tag.  One of my good friends from Camofire will be with me!

I applied (or will apply) for tags in UT, WY, and OR.

I am very excited for and have reasonable odds to draw pronghorn tags in UT and WY and archery deer in OR. There are other tags I HOPE to draw but the odds are definitely not as high.

I am so excited to take my first archery elk. Had a really great season last year and got so close. THIS IS THE YEAR!

I applied for an elk tag in Montana. It?s in an area where we saw elk last year but didn?t get to shoot because we didn?t have the tag.

To prep for this next season, I try to stay on a fitness routine year round, combining gym classes through the winter and biking/scouting hikes in the spring/summer

This year I joined a local 3D archery league. If you haven't done this before, do it! Besides keeping up a regular shooting routine, it will make you so much better at judging yardage, learning trajectory for tough shoots and a great way to meet fellow hunters.

I'm preparing for the season by shooting archery at least once a week and running and lifting weights 3 times a week.

Applied for Elk in Arizona....first time so of course didn't get drawn.  Hoping to accumulate points over the next decade and hunt with my step father, brother in law and nephew...who live there and know Arizona well.
Buying an OTC tag for Idaho...sixth year there and can't wait for September screaming bulls!

So I'm headed to Idaho this year for OTC tags with my son and possibly my 78 year old dad. My son is getting married in August so he can't take off enough time to hunt here in WA if we were to get drawn here for a special tag. But I at least get a week with him in Idaho.

My main preparation is shooting my bow as much as possible.  Especially since this is my first year I want to make sure my equipment and ability to use it is good to go!

The thing I'm most excited about this year is the possibility of three generations of hunters on the same trip, my dad, my son and myself.

Working on fitness and calling and shooting and gear upgrades for this year...concentrating on fitness right now using Atomic Athlete program that's on the Hunt Backcountry podcast. It uses a weighted pack and is a blast!
