I have been working out to get in the best shape I have been in for years. Trying to eat right,  hiking, doing circuit training and lifting is work well. I'm 58 so have to work even harder at keeping in shape.

This year is beginning a little different than in years past.  Foot surgery in December and skin cancer removal surgery last week.  I spend a lot of time riding my bikes(pedal) thousands of miles and lots of hiking.

A big piece of advice I would give is never give up. Elk hunting is hard but super rewarding. It is worth the challenge so when it gets hard keep going.

First 6x call in for me..and first EVER kill (on his first elk hunt BW) for my bro..needless to say we are Elk Addicts!!!

One piece of advice for anyone wanting to try elk hunting...JUST GO! You can buy OTC tags in many states and you really don't need any special gear...a weapon, binos, and desire is all you really need!

My best advise to a new elk hunter. Learn to call and make all elk sounds. I run into to many hunters to do not call at all nor understand what sounds to make when they encounter elk.

Tell us what states you applied for this year and what tag you hope for the most:

I am hunting Montana and Idaho this year.  Both OTC and hope to fill both of them.

Tell us what you?re most excited for this season:

Going to be doing some filming this year.  Really looking forward to posting hunts on youtube.

Tell us what you?re doing in preparation for the season:

Losing weight.  I have lost 27lbs since January and going to do another 25 by July.

Share one piece of advice you?d give to anyone interested in elk hunting:
Learn to use a mouth reed.  I give this advise to so many rookies I take out.  So many them have missed their opportunity because they didn't listen and couldn't stop the elk in the right place.
BONUS:  Do not set up behind cover.  Set up in front of the cover and let the camo do the work.

I applied for Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Montana and Colorado. Since I've had several swing and misses, I hope to draw New Mexico!

I'm working hardest on overcoming target panic this year. This has been the one thing that has kept me from punching my tag the most.

The most exciting part about this year is hunting a new area with some first time elk hunters.
