What did you do today....

Will every doctor? :dk: if it could save a life, I\'d hope so!

I generally will prescribe pens to those who need them. If you find it difficult to get one, remember that malpractice insurance companies generally frown on prescribing things for people who are not established patients whom you have seen face-to-face. Therefore, I only prescribe things for my patients and generally also update their other backcountry medicine cabinet needs.

As we go through the summer, I\'ll create a thread about the medicines that I generally carry, but one of the more important ones is Aspirin. The main way people die while hunting? Heart attack. Aspirin is an effective treatment.

John, that is very nice of you to do and that is definitely a thread I look forward to.

I carry them with me as well as my Nitro pills. Yep 5\' 10\" #170 active, good eater, no drugs, no pop for last 10 years, and I had a heart attack at age 41. I still experience some occasional chest pains but usually when I am at rest. I guess I just need to keep moving and don\'t stop. lol

Big hills make me feel like my heart will explode. Haha. I do carry aspirin. But good call. May as well tell us how to use it if when it happens. You chew it?

I got stung on my head by a bee. No issues except me falling off my bike and writhing around on the ground like a crazy person while I tried freeing the bee from my helmet.

Wow....heart attack at 41 is too dang young. You have family history of heart attacks? I\'m not a physician but good call on taking nitro with you. Not everyone has access to nitro (or needs to) but totally agree with Derek....everyone should carry aspirin with them. Again....not a doc but random chest pains at rest is not raising my eyebrows any. Exertional chest pain...like if you go hiking up a hill, or chest pain relieved by your nitro and I would get a hold of your Cardiologist asap. You prolly might want to follow up with them anyhow regularly with stress testing considering you had a heart attack at 41. You go through a rigorous stress test and pass, you should have comfort your are doing good. Obviously you still keep your nitro and aspirin handy just because you pass a stress test.

I got stung many times as a kid and had no issues. Then when I was 23 I got stung in the palm and the pain throughout the night was excruciating and my hand swelled up 2x the normal size. At 24 I got stung above the eye in my forehead and my airway started closing. Lucky I was in town and was able to get to the ER. Lesson.....one just never knows!

Oly, I had the attack wile sleeping woke up with bad pains in the center of my chest. I went to the hospital and had another episode of pain while waiting to have an angioscope which reveled no blockage. .The docs word were \" You are squeaky clean\" He said on a scale of 1-10 of heart attacks I had a 5. I see him every year to be checked out. The Nitro helps when I do have pains but WOW does it give you a headache. I only take it 4-5 times year. That was 5 years ago and I\'m still kicking. LOL. No history in the family. My Great Grandmother was a commercial fisherman till she was 74 lived to 93.

Terry, that\'s good news your angiogram showed no blocked coronaries. 10/4 on the nitro giving you a headache......it dilates your vessels so you can feel light headed too.. but it beats the alternative. lol Just keep following your docs advice and you will be good! :dance2:

I am trying to get back into shape myself. I have to come out of my winter hibernation. I did a 4 mile run last night. Bleck.....

Terry, I wish you well and many more years in the woods. Perhaps your Great Grandmother ate more fish :p

Yesterday...
Submitted the CO app (deadline April 7th) and donation to CPW:
OTC elk archery
Deer in same unit where I hunt elk. Burned my PPs. I was done with saving deer PPs. I can draw this unit 1st choice with 0 PP.
PP for pronghorn
PP for moose

Practiced shooting form in front of a mirror. Dang post-op restrictions prevent me from using a real bow.

30 minutes treadmill walk.

Celebration of the end of the 3 week post-op restrictions (no lifting >10 lbs and no leaning over): a homemade margarita on the rocks using the good tequila (Don Julio reposado) with extra lime and Agave as the sweeter. They should not make tequila taste so good.

Tonight, continuing the celebration of the end of the 3 week post-op restrictions with a friend treating me to dinner.

3 more weeks to go to lift all restrictions: no blowing nose, no running/jarring exercise, no lifting >25 lbs, sneezing with mouth open, ugh...Mid April cannot come soon enough. I am so antsy.

Today was a fast paced arm workout. I alternated between arm workouts and jump roping.
It was actually really nice :upthumb:

Helped someone with their CO app.

2.5 mile walk. Arms & shoulders using dumbbells.

Ordered new running shoes in anticipation of resuming running in 3 weeks.

I need some new shoes too. Mine are falling apart.

Today was the gym and a light jog. Only because tomorrow will probably be 10-15 miles of hiking.

4 mile walk. Resumed emptying storage unit. Got some camping stuff out of storage and cleaned it up.

Rot roh!

Deertick came down from Laramie today.
We went thru his bow, sighted it in, put on a lighted nock to track flight.
Shot prob 40-50 arrows each at 20- 47yds in the yard
Went over some maps, talked about our upcoming hunt
Had a great day

Yep, good day ... except I had the beginning of a cold that is now kicking my butt, and now I have a sunburn on top of it because we spent a few hours around noon out in the sun -- something that I haven\'t done for a while. Oh, well, it\'ll be gone by archery season, and if not, it at least seems to make a reasonable ASAT pattern on my bald head.

It\'s tapping time around here. My father inlaw taps Maple trees, so I spent the afternoon hauling 5 gallon buckets of sap out of the woods. It\'s alot of work but when it is done and on some pancakes it makes it worthwhile. Nothing beats the fresh stuff. :upthumb:

That sounds so good! You are right, nothing beats fresh syrup!

Last night I tried something new. I shot my bow going into sunset and the final 30 minutes of light.
I used both illuminated and unilluminated pins and actually shot very well. I will definitely do this more :upthumb:
