I am putting points in for Montana elk for the 2nd year hope to get draw next year.
Hunted it in 2004 for mule deer and seen a few elk.

If i could give advice to anyone thinking about elk hunting, it would be "To do it!"  Embrace the unknown and experience it.  Don't get caught up in the experience gear talk.  Find stuff that works and you can afford.  Hard work will make up for the rest.

What am I most excited about for next season?  The sight and smell of the horses and tack at the trailhead, the image of smoke bellowing out of the stove pipe of a wall tent at the end of a meadow, and the sound of the season's first bugle.

Preparation this year...Well we've updated some equipment, spotting scope, arrows, rifle scope, and packs. Working out, losing some unwanted pounds, and studing the University material. Hopefully, the extra effort will result in success.

The best advice for elk hunting, join the university of elk, and then go. Many have already stated the same thing, but you will never know what it is like if you never put boots on the ground.
