Advice: Elk hunting is doable but you gotta want it. While no shortage of work, with some hustle you can be prepared for a DIY or Guided adventure you have been dreaming. Life is short, go get it!

I applied for an archery elk tag in northern New Mexico.
I will also hunt my home state of Montana and if time allows I will archery elk hunt in Idaho.

I am most excited about possibly drawing the New Mexico archery tag for the second time in about 10 years.
I will also be taking my oldest son archery caribou hunting in Alaska for his high school graduation present, which is incredibly exciting.

I am running every other day, mostly inside right now as the weather still sucks where I live in Montana.  I then do a Bowflex Max Trainer workout every other day.  As soon as the weather improves I will be moving all of my training outside to running and hiking the mountains around my house.

A very good piece of advise for anyone on their first elk hunt or their fiftieth elk hunt is to always stay positive and never give up until the last light of the last day of your hunt.
Pick your elk hunting partner(s) wisely, you will be going through lots of ups and lots of downs with him/her and you need a strong relationship to endure the season.

This is a photo of my oldest son during a mid September archery elk hunt in Montana.  We saw five different bulls this morning, but we couldn't close the deal.  The largest bull I was able to call into 40 yards for my son, but it was very thick timber/brush.  What a great morning and what amazing memories we will always have of this hunt together!

Idaho and Washington.. and actually I really hope to draw my Washington tag because it will be and epic hunt if I get it

I put in for preference points in Wyoming and Montana.  I put in to draw an elk and mule deer tag in Colorado.  Hope to draw on the muley.

I am most excited to take my three young boys out to hear the bulls in september. My oldest starts the apprentice hunt here in montana this year and that should be a blast.
