What did you do today....

Just did a nice arm workout and probably my last workout before I leave. The rest will just be walking and shooting a few arrows here and there.

3 more work days. :upthumb:

and a poker night.
Hmmm...what does poker have to do with elk hunting? Are you gambling away your elk meat? Don\'t do it. No bluffing with a pair of deuces.

Last night, I got synced up with my hunting partner. He gave me the results of glassing and his trail cameras. The ladies have not moved down to even 11,000 ft, yet. I little a weird, but I know they will come within 2 days of opening weekend. Just a little weird not to have them at least at 11,000 by now. My area has a huge ridge at 12,000 ft. Lots of steep terrain.

Purchased Bludgeon Points to go with my judos. Bought new fletching gel since all my stuff has gone bad. Purchased my celebration alcohol. I don\'t drink while camping above 9,000 ft, so it is for my return. Packed a few things I forgot this past weekend. Did a round of shooting in my basement since hail storms dampened my planned trip to the range.

This morning, I did my last intense exercise: walk/run intervals on treadmill. I did something to my right knee. It hurts. TLC for the rest of the week.

Later, I will shoot. Tonight, I will load my SUV.

So, it started last evening with texts to Francis to say good luck and be safe ~ he leaves today.

This morning at 4am I strapped on my pack frame with a 50 lb. bag of sunflower seeds and walked up and down hills for 2 miles. The nice thing is that it was 37 degrees out! Unusual for this time of year in northern MN. Also, as I turned around and headed back home, the northern lights were dancing in the sky....AWESOME MORNING!!!

Only 15 days until we leave....

Went and checked on my cameras again the other day. A quick 4.5 mile hike through the woods. Didn\'t get any good pics this time, but did find a nice wallow. I\'m not as concerned with the lack of pics as I assume the bulls are moving more towards the cows at this point, but I still moved two of my cameras to new locations. Only 45 days out!

Got 12 more arrows, my bow looked over and some nocturnals.

2 days of work left........ :tease: :tease: :tease: :tease:

Now for a walk and some shooting.

busy day..... put in a new bay window in the living room, trimmed bushes, shot my bow with my pack on, cleaned up the mess that the new window left behind, and the usual cook supper for the boys and clean up...

Long days at work ... still working out daily before heading out.

I took a chance and went looking for cow elk tonight with my rifle tag ... no go. I did see them on a neighboring ranch, though!

Overall, though, I\'m feeling physically ready, but still not fully organized. It\'ll come.

Fletched AGAIN arrows that I used bad glue on last week. Vanes did not hold.

Packed SUV. Still need bow, arrow case, hunting pack, non hunting cloths bag, ice and cold food. I have too much stuff. Now I know why people take trailers. My brother said I should buy a hitch carrier. I need less stuff. Leaving a couple of things like 0 degree bag.

I walked 2 miles this morning, no pack.
My left knee i still reminding me its grumpy and I dont like that.
Tomorrow is final details and packing food.

Shoot a few arrows and put the bow in the case.

I spent most of the day yesterday packing my packs and getting more food squirrelled away. my clothes are piled up ready to be washed. then I managed to shoot the bow with the broadhead on, shot really well out to 40 yards. I was already in my neighbors back yard and didn\'t want to go back any further. then did a 3.1 mile run with my day back on. man did I get some looks.....

Always a big fear ~ getting sick in the week before the hunt. Last year on Day 2 of our hunt one of the guys got diverticulitis. After 2 days of HELL he finally went to the emergency room. We thought that ruined his hunt, but 2 days later he put an arrow through the heart of a 4x5 bull! It was the first elk he had ever shot with his bow. What a fantastic end to a rough start of a hunt....and as always, never quit because it can turn around at any time.

shot the bow after work. practiced scenarios, watching an elk come in a drawing while they were behind cover and quickly shooting after I stop them with a mew. at 25 yards with a pack on :)
