    Calling in Cows?

I?m hunting the Oregon coast during late season cow hunt in a few weeks.  Looking for some advice for calling for cows.  Here the herds are typically pretty small.  Lots of 5-8 sized groups and only a few big herds.  Any tactics which have worked for people in the past?

    Hunting with crutches?

I just smashed my foot and am on crutches for a few weeks which means I will have to make my way in the woods on crutches. Any advice? Stories? I can't be the only one who isn't going to let crutches come between me and trying to get close to an elk.

Big storms for Oregon on opening weekend

The Oregon coast is expected to have a huge storm on opening day with wind gusts up to 47mph and dumping 1-2 inches of rain. It will sure soften the ground which is super dry and noisy, but gonna make for an interesting day. Anyone have thoughts on how the elk will likely react?  I'm still going...

    Dealing with tall grass....

watching elk going through a meadow I was realizing even though they were in shoot able positions, the grass is so high it would be tough to put an arrow low enough, especially on a downhill angle.  Anyone else dealing with that frustration?

How useful is the clamp with heads up decoy?

Getting a heads up decoy and am wondering how useful people have found the clamp (not the bow mount - just the regular clamp). Do you find yourself using a clamp a lot, or not much at all?

    String loops - worth it?

Every magazine seems to run articles on how good string loops are, but I have been to two pro-shops now (one when I got my bow, and last year when I had it tuned up) where they said they really are just a personal preference.  I have a pretty short draw length 27 1/4 and don't want to lose draw...

    Trying to ID a scope

My son and I were talking rifle scopes the other night and both of us remember watching a TV show where they were showing a company's process for making scopes and as part of it they were showing this guy who would take a scope and beat the snot out of it on an anvil, then do his quality control...

    North facing slopes - Really?

People are always talking about hunting north facing slopes. Does it really make a difference? Or do you think it is region specific? I'm hunting the dense coast ranges for rosies and haven't really found that slope face makes much difference in where the sign or bedding areas are. But I'm...

lone bull walking - do you keep following?

Hunting the oregon coast range I often find lone bulls just slowly walking along. They will talk back when called, but won't change their path. I have followed these guys for miles, and never end up getting a shot. Eventually they end up in terrain I can't follow and I lose them. How do you hunt...
