    Elk tongue?

I'm a big advocate of not wasting anything I'm fortunate enough to kill when hunting. Although it sounds unappealing tongue is very familiar to heart and in my opinion very tasty. When I hunt deer out east I take and eat the tongue, but I'm hesitant to with elk. Knowing CWD is present in and...

Just curious what you typically do when you wake up to a down pour? Do you sit tight & hope it will let up, or head out & hope for the best? What are you takes on how it affects the elk?

    Keeping meat cool for transport

I travel from North Carolina out west to hunt elk. I've priced the large Yeti, Pelican, & Igloo coolers but those coolers run well over $1,000. For those of you who have to transport your meat long distances what do you do or use?

What's your experience with campfire smoke and the affect on elk

I figured the campfire section would be the appropriate place to post this question?  What's your thoughts about the affects of smoke from camp fires on elk whether right off the National Forest road or miles into the back country.  Interested to hear your experiences or thoughts.

Drying out clothes in the back country?

It seems regardless of the weather, inevitably my clothes get soaked. Whether its from sweat or from the weather. I layer, have a merino wool base layer, and shed clothes as needed. It's not that bad except when you wake up the next morning & have to put cold, wet hunting clothes back on. In the...

Glassing from high in the morning

I was looking for some input.  I know the mountain winds & thermals keep you on your toes. However, from my understanding the thermals typically stay consistent.  Cool air drops in the mornings so the thermals move down, then warm throughout the day and switch so that the thermals move uphill. ...
